Hi all i bought a bale of easibed 1 week ago i have six pigs so i am struggling to make it last 1 month i had to pay postage so it worked out about a tenner is there anythink cheaper i can use :smitten:

I use fleece blankets, you have to change every other day but there is no cost other than buying then in and washingp powder.

If yor pigs are outside then megazorb is around £5.26 for a 3ft bag. :)

I use fleece blankets too as they are nice and soft for little piggy feet. Spot clean daily and change regularly. It's bliss not to have woodshavings everywhere. I also think it is safer for piggies as some get skin irritations or breathing problems with woodshavings. "The Works" book shops sell fleeces really cheap (2 for £5.00).

Greenmule.co.uk do Megazorb for £8.50 with delievery. I couldn't find a stockiest on Northern crop driers but if there is a horse feed shop in your area you may have some luck there. :)

i use fleece too, always have done and wouldnt want to try anything else its just soooo easy :D

THe Hungry Horse at Sutton Coldfield do Megazorb and I also get some stuff fron a place in Essington

Newspaper with hay on top is cheapest and best for piggies. Easy to clean too as you just roll the mess up and throw it away. It does need frequent changing though, every 2 to 3 days depending on the number of animals.

Easibed smells just like shavings, it can't be good for guineas. I trialed it and decided not to buy any more. It was less of a problem for rabbits when used in a large space with good ventilation but I also tried and liked Ecoflax for the rabbits but it is a bit sharp for piggies. But if it was covered with hay it would make a good underlayer as it is very absorbant and doesn't smell as it is chopped straw. It is also sold as Thorobed.

I use Megazorb, its around £4.99 for 85litres it had done 4 pet shop cages and 2 4x2 cages with a little spare. I would image it would depend on how deep you like it as to how long it lasts.

I have medi bed for mine, paid £7 or something and I have 11 pigs, still got over half the bag left. It's so much cheaper if you can find a farm shop/horse shop suppliers etc, as when you buy it off the internet they always have to charge £5 P&P

If you do go for fleece blankets then Bargain Madness do them from £1.99 upwards! I do agree that housing on Hay is probably the best for a natural environment, but all my pigs are indoors and as I have hayfever putting them on hay is not an option. Timothy Hay doesn't bother me though, it's only when the pigs have damped it up with urine that I struggle.

So it's fleece all the way for me, even if it means more cleaning. Peter wants to put the pigs outside in the Spring...hmmm... ;D As if! That would mean my bedding bills go up again and less treats for the pigs. I just have to sweet talk him! 0:)
