What is the most absorbing- less mess for the litter box? If they use there hay trays to pee in I would be safe by putting the hay ( what ever I use to put it in) by the potty?

megazorb is really good in litter trays. Mine wouldn't use litter trays enough to justify keeping them but i do use megazorb on the whole of my upper floor of my winter cage and it's excellent at keeping smells down.

I do find it tends to be a bit messy though, specially at change time, a fair bit ends up on the floor! Easy to sweep/vacuum though

i use a fe sheets of newspaper, topped with paper based cat litter, topped with lots of hay .

I use Aubiose in litter trays . It's really absorbant . I change the hay daily and usually only have to change the aubiose once a week.

wow.. once a week - thats fab ! i do mine twice a day ! to be honest i could probably leave it longer but when i have tried to pick the poo out and the wet patches out i get fed up and just chuck it all in the bin lol !

I should call mine Aubiose trays really - as I don't always put hay in them !

I get cardboard box lid, 1/2 fill it with Aubiose and put a layer of fleece on top . I have a few in the hutch and fill at least one with hay . Every spot clean , I pick up the fleece , shake off the contents and replace the fleece if soiled . The box lid and contents just gets thrown out on full clean days ( once a week ) .

Here is Sparkle modelling the tray ..

Cheap And Cheerful !

ive not ever managed to potty train my piggies they go on the fleece which I shake off every day! My bunnies are litter trained and I use equinola which is horse bedding... I have to use something that is dust extracted cause my hubby has asthma so cant have wood shavings.... equinola because its used for horses is meant to be super absorbent but I change it every day.... not sure if my rabbits just wee a lot but its always soaked.... I couldn't possibly not do it every day!

I have rabbits too and one uses the shavings and one uses sent free cat litter. Neither one is messy but my buns are potty trianed so I don't have bedding all over from the pan or cat litter- might just use paper and hay since it seems that's they best bet.

aubiose is a hemp based bedding. I use it as the absorbant layer in my tray. The fleece later allows urine to wick through so, yes, they potty on the fleece and the urine goes down into the aubiose.

I use aubiouse for my rabbit and guinea pig litter trays then hay on top.Litter trays get changed every day for the piggies and every other day for the rabbits. Most wees in litter trays, poo everywhere .Since putting my latest two pigs in the big cage I have to put extra towel and fleece down that gets changed every day.Main fleece twice a week

That's a really good idea actually as then you can just tip the poo's away and replace the fleece as needed and it will keep the aubiose fresher for longer. Deffo going to steal that idea in my trays :-)

I didn'the want to complicate my answer too much ... but ...... I have made special tray liners - they are fleece on one side and plain cotton on the other . The cotton side goes against the Aubiose . I found Aubiose was sticking to the fleece and having a cotton side is much easier .
