i have 2 guiena pigs. i have had them for a while and i have been reading alot of websites. the guiena pigs are both female, and I'm not sure if what I'm feeding them is right.
I'm feeding them seed mixes for guinea pigs from the pet store, letteace (all types) apples, tomatos, grapes (seedless), spinach, carrots, corn on the cobcb, snow peas, round beans (both beans and peas arnt cooked).
there are problary a few other things i have forgotten, but ive been told not to give iceberg lettuace because it gives them an upset tummy, but my guinea pigs love it. also ive been told that too much spinach is toxic for them but i give them atleast 3 leaves of spinach every day or so.
Am i feeding them right?
is there other stuff they can eat that I'm not feeding them?
what type of seads can i feed them?
in the seed mix it has sunflower seeds but ive also been told not to feed sunflower seeds to them.
HELP!

They need hay, permanently available. I'm not sure about the spinach or seeds. Normally guineas don't eat seeds.

seeds are a definate no no as they pick out there fave bits and miss out on the full nutrition, they need a pellet food, iceberg lettuce is also bad for them as the nitrate levels are high so dont give them that.
Iceberg nearly killed my sisters pigs and he was on meds for weeks to recover so its not a smart idea.
Spinach once a week would be prefferable,
they key is everything in moderation and lots of variety
no seed mixes are good for piggies basically they need

a good range of fresh veg/some fruit once or twice a week/unlimited hay,good pellets/grass
here is a list of safe and unsafe foods and everything else you may need

make sure they get at least 3 different veges in each meal,it is also prefferable that they get veg morning and night, over the whole day they need about 1 cup of veg per pig.
They also need lots of vit c from veg not from supplements or additives in water.
red peppers are a good source of vit c and try not to over do calcium some is good for them but not to much
read as many stickys in each section as you can it will help you alot xxxxx

here is a site that sells great hay and pellets
http://oxbowanimalhealth.com/

and one to get some shampoo to wash your piggy from they also help with most skin conditions so can be good if your piggy falls ill

This is what I give my piggies:

loads of hay! They like Meadow hay from Bob Martin, but give your piggies what they like best.

I give piggies cabbage, brussel sprouts or broccoli daily . (However tends to be cabbage - Tesco do bags of the stuff for 68p)

Then carrots, cherry tomatoes or cucmber. ( All together it roughly adds up to around 50g per pig. split through out the day including the greens).

I also give them Guinea pig nuggets ( I give around 35g to 50g) which prevents selective feeding.

PS just realised your in Australia so may be the brands are not available over there, but your local stores should sell similar.

As a treat I will give them corn on the cob or melon may be twice a week.

I think everybody has said it - hay as much as they can eat, dry food plenty for the first year of their life, then only in moderation (or they will go fat, like with a seed mix).

1 cup of mixed veg per piggy per day (of course, you can give half in the morning and half in the evening).
