While I was trying to choose a name for my Freddie pig, I was wondering what the most popular Guinea pig name was, and the most unusual Guinea pig name was. So I thought I would ask the names of your Guinea pigs to help my curiosity :)

My Guinea pigs are called
Freddie (male)
Frankie (male)
Florence (female)
Francis (female)

My rainbow bridge Guineas were called
Fudge (male)
Jerry (male)
Henry (male)
Pippin (male)
Nazeem (male)

I think fudge (who already had that name when we got him) would be one of the more common names and Nazeem one of the more unusual names (we named him after prince Nazeem Hamed). :)

I like your 'F' theme with the names, especially Francis! Mine are Teddy, Ziggy and Duke. In their previous home called Teddy, Zig & Zag. Decided to keep Teddy the same as she's just such a Teddy but changed Zig to Ziggy and Zag to Duke because I love David Bowie & wanted a link to him in the names. Nazeem was a great name, really like that:)

Aww they are lovely names :) teddy is so cute :) haha yes my "F" theme got a bit out of hand lol I had Frankie from a baby and they got fudge who was already called that so when I got my first girl I liked Florence after Florence and the machine :) and then Francis just had to start with an F lol, then Freddie came along and he looks nearly identical to Frankie so I wanted something that sounded similar haha :)

I love the reasons behind the names people choose, this will be a good thread:) Flo was one of the names I considered for Duke. Pickle for some reason was in my mind too, she just looks like a wee Pickle. Francis is so good though, it's not a name you'd expect:)

My current piggys are all named after sweets!
My first piggy was mikey, i took him on after the bin men found him dumped in a wheelie bin with some rubbish and handed him into the pdsa. I had him neutered and took on a sow who i named crunchie. I then took on fudge (already named), and shortly after mikey passed away with acute organ failure.

I was then left with crunchie and fudge, and when i adopted a white coronet i felt obliged to stick to the sweetie name.. And the same with the baby iv just took on last month..

So i now have crunchie, fudge, mallow and Poppet!

My 1st 2 pigs were called bill and ted, my mums friend named them cos I couldn't think of names lol and I've currently got Sam( named after one of the main characters in supernatural), Georgie( named after the cute kid in the film IT who gets killed by the clown:() and mummy pig and baby pig who isn't a baby anymore lol

I have three kids, so they have had a bigger role than me in picking out names. Years ago one of them also insisted that guinea pigs should have middle names, which is why they also have middle names.
Our original pair were Linney Cupcake and Frenzy Popcorn. My daughter named Linney after the guinea pig on Wonderpets and my son named Frenzy out of Transformers. Our current two are Sundae Vanilla and Hadley Cupcake. When we got Sundae one of the kids suggested that she looked like butterscotch ripple ice cream, and it so happened that the pet store rubbed her with vanilla (not sure why exactly!) to give her the middle name. By the time we got Hadley they were getting a little more adult in their name choices, so Hadley is actually named after the colony in the movie Aliens (Hadley's Hope. My son and older daughter and I are big sci-fi/horror geeks.) And Cupcake was Linney's middle name and everyone really loved Linney, so we named the next pig in her memory.

I also have kids and they wanted 'real' names (as in people names). I had a list of names like Oreo and Star, and they vetoed them all!
So our 3 are Ruby (female), Lucy (female) and Eddi (male in my profile pic).

In our human family everyone has 5 letters in their first name, so the kids were adamant we do the same for the guinea pigs, but they should have less letters because they are smaller, hence they all have 4 letter names.

Plus some of the names we liked wouldn't work in German because they are too difficult to pronounce, or sound weird, or mean something completely different, and since all the kids friends speak German, we needed names that would work in both languages.

My original guineas in the UK were both rescues, and named when I got them.
They were Rosie and Bramble.

My rainbow bridge pigs:
Dounut (no idea - my brother's pig!) and Marmalade (she was a bit of a ginge) and TigersEye (brother's pig, apparently her colouring was similar to that of the semi-precious stone) and Gemma (I just like the name)

Current piggies are Chewie, BB-8 and Rey and they all look quite like their namesakes!

My big ladies are called Pixel and Widget, which was an attempt to get my husband interested in the concept of having guinea pigs by calling them slightly techy things. Then along came Thor the boar (with no boar bits) as he rumbled a lot when he was little. Most recently, they've been joined by baby Freya - I wanted a Norse name to keep Thor company and I thought it was pretty :)

There are some totally gorgeous names on here!

My current boys are: Merry, Theo, Coco, Paddington, Pippin, Abraham (Abe), Ollie, Leo, Milo and Jojo.

My rainbow bridge boys are: Sunny, Patch, Pebbles, Squiggles, Harley, Hamish, Hammond, Neo, Elven and Gippy.

I don't have a naming strategy as such - I just give myself a few days to get to know a new pig, then somehow decide: "You look like a ..." :)

I'm loving all these different names & the thoughts that went into giving them, it's really interesting:) My husband has started calling Teddy 'Tam' because the way her back legs look when she walks remind him of an old man he used to work with! Poor Teddy! I hope she doesn't end up with an identity crisis:xd:

I've got tiger-lilly, poppy-rose and daisy-dot (was gonna be daisy-May but boyfriend on first seeing her said she was a dot)My daughter's two are salt and pepper and the shared boar (me and the boyfriends)is Kyle(named when we got him and the boyfriend likes south park). My previous piggies were fizzy-pop (ginger texel in my avatar) named after the Corrie character), pebbles, Pepsi, pia, Paris and pixie.Have also had sugar (rainbow bridge) and spice ( now with boss hog and renamed)

My first ever piggie years ago was called Snowball (already named)

Now I have
Alby (originally named bubble)
Fudge (originally named squeak)
Buddy (already named)
Peanut ((already named)

I changed Alby and Fudges names as when you said their old names they made a startled noise and ran and hid. (Sad)

At the moment we have Blackberry and Bramble, I wish I had a bit more of a theme with names! Although most end up being named after food of some sort.

Past piggies were
Badger
Fudge
Patch
Tilly
Snowball
Branston
Pickle
Rolo
Tigger
Bovril
Marmite
Sooty
Sweep
Bullseye
Maggie
Honey

I've used all human names for my piggies-
Boys
Humphrey
Montgomery (Monty)
Rodney
Benji (renamed from Gantu)
Trevor
Chester
Charlie
Fred (was Pinky)
George (was Perky)

Girls
Penelope (Penny) previous home thought she was a boy- Lenny
Dorothy (Dotty) previous home thought she was a boy- Bobby
Emily (Milly)
Harriet (Harri)

The other two girls are Coco and Crunchie- they came from a family friend so we didn't feel like we should change them as they still see them from time to time.
