I have bought a run and put my pigs outside. They are not on grass as I haven’t finished introducing it (they have some scattered around the enclosure). The run is in the sun but half is covered with wood and the other half covered with a blanket.

Wherever I take my pigs I also take a digital thermometer. I am wondering what is considered the temperature range suitable for them?

I keep their room at 16-22 and move them out if it reaches over 25 during the summer. They get heat pads if it is consistently below 17.

Their run is currently at 23.6, at what point should I be bringing them back in?

I knew this once, but haven’t put them outside for nearly two years so have forgotten! I can find the guides on heat stroke and outside time, but none of them mention the exact temperatures as far as I have seen.

Thanks for any help.

18-22 is their comfort range - it’s very similar to ours. Anything over 25 is considered too hot. Below 15 is getting chilly for an indoor pig.

However is not just about the air temperature. You have to consider sun heated breezes, humidity and as ground temperature. But generally, you can go by how you feel - if you’re comfortable then they’re comfortable similarly if you’re hot then they are

Thank you! It seems I have been getting it right.

Their run went up to 24 for a bit and I was going to move them back indoors but it then went down. It’s now at 19 and they’re beginning to move around.

The problem I have is that I am autistic and can’t always recognise myself whether I myself am too hot or cold, let alone how my pigs might be feeling!
