We're having to use a lot of vetbed for Sammy who was recently neutered. I change them every day which means i put the vetbed in the washing machine every day. I put it on a fast wash but i'm worried about the damage it'll do to my washing machine. As the vetbeds are new, a lot of the fluff comes out as well as small bits of hay that i'm not able to brush off.
I just worry that one day it'll get so clogged up that i'll need to replace the whole machine!

Does anyone else have this problem or is there a safer way to wash them? 98)

Just make sure you clean the lint filter after every wash and give the washing machine a wash without anything in it, just to rinse out.
That's all I can think off, people do that when they are washing a lot of overalls from the mechanics.

some people put vetbed in an old pillow case, to keep the fluff from clogging the machine up.

Have a look at the housing section of this forum - there are loads of threads about vetbed, and also about how to wash them ;)

Thanx for that, when i find out what the lint filter is, i'll get it cleaned 98)
I have been doing a wash with nothing in it and with an extra rinse so hopefully it'll be ok. Unlike my hoover which i only realised wasn't picking up after the hose was filled with hay and cat hair! Lovely!

Pillowcase is a great idea, and very obvious. Should've thought of that a while ago :D

The best way to wash vetbed is to put it inside an old duvet cover then tie up the end.
It stops the fluff, hay and occasion piggy poo damaging the washing machine.
I use a Laundry bag when washing mine :)

I use fleece and put mine in an old duvet to wash as well. Also I dettol the machine once its been used to get it looking like new again as soome bits do escape. :)

Where do you get laundry bags then?

u beat me to that i dont know either then we havent many shops here lol

I like this thread! Haven't been using fleece for long and have been worrying about clogging up my machine. gonna steal some of these ideas! O0

I do not use vetbed for the piggies but do for the dog. I have used it since January I have three pieces that are washed twice a week along with dogs towels and blankets. I put them all inside a duvet cover. After washing the dogs stuff I then do a maintinance wash ;)which is a 95c wash of bi carb and vinegar this cleans the washer. older machines do not have a filter that you can get to easily if at all.
All washers have an average lifespan depending on make. I have a LG and so far is doing better than all the hotpoints I have owned. The most trusted make for a washer is the miele was not going to pay thier prices due to the small drum size so went for an LG with a bigger than averge drum that is hot and cold fill most washers are now cold fill only.

washed my vet bed and i must have done soomething wrong it looks horrible >:( :(

After washing our vetbeds a few times it starts to go fleecy and flimsy but its more manageable in the machine like that. I've started using an old duvet cover and its doing the trick! I'm so glad i asked as now i can wash the cats fleece this way without hair going everywhere!

We just use a delicate bag sometimes. Sometimes I just throw it in the wash with no cover and wash on delicate just to be sure. A large pillow case would work.
