This is my guide about Vitamin C deficiency. My guineapig suffered from it a while back, and now I know the signs of it, and how to treat it. (Bits taken from internet).

What are the signs of Vitamin C deficiency?

Signs are :

> Loss of appetite

> Shy, unusual behaviour

> Weight Loss

> Ruffled fur

> Lameness

> Nasal Discharge

> Bleeding Gums

These are just some of the basic symptoms.

What should I do if I think my piggie has this disease?

If your guinea pig is showing any of these signs, you have to go to the vets STRAIGHT away. I know for sure that this disease can be fatal.

Treatment?

The vet will sort out your treatment for you. He will give your guineapig a simple injection.

What fruit and veg can I feed my guineapig to prevent him/her from getting it again?

Kale
Parsley
Sweet Red & Yellow Peppers
Broccoli
Guava
Green Peppers
Kiwi
Strawberry
Mustard Greens
Cauliflower

Hope this little (sorry) guide helps!

Vitamin C deficiency is a deficiency, not a disease. It's caused by giving a guinea pig a diet which contains too little or no vitamin c. The treatment shouldn't be just a simple injection but also a complete revamp of the pigs diet to prevent the deficiency from happening again.

Guinea pigs can be given extra vitamin C by giving them a diet high in vitamin C: feeding pellets which aren't by their best-before date that have sustained vitamin C; by giving pigs crushed, sugarless vitamin C tablets daily and by feeding them veggies which are high in vitamin C. Vitamin drops in the water aren't suitable because it's difficult to measure how much or little water your pig is drinking - and whether the water is affecting this - and also because vitamin C is extremely unstable and will begin to become useless with time in both sunlight and water.

Uh.Oh. :red:)p

Well just tryna help, I'm a vetinary nurse in the making! And most of this my vet told me! I'm not as knowledgable as you :)

How can I lock this? :)

I will make a new one once I have 'proper' information!
