She looks like she's feeling very sorry for herself right now. Pity you're not a wee bit closer... my vet hospital is super (it's in Stirling). I've never known a vet that would look at incisors like that and just leave them.

Are you managing to get the recovery/water into her?

Getting it into her mouth but she's not swallowing now.

Stirling is not that far from me - I'm in airdrie - who's your vet?

Bless her she looks very sorry for herself.
Warm hugs to you and Toffee :smitten:.

I hope you can get her in to one of those recommended vets tomorrow.
Be strong little toffee :)

what a stupid poor excuse for a vet! if 4 of them all said that toffee's teeth were fine they need glasses! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: i don't usually lose my temper on a forum but i am so mad that this little angel like some of our piggies has been made to suffer because of stupid vets! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:
my heart goes out to you and sending prayers and hugs to you and toffee. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: if you think she is getting worse see a vet ASAP! but different one from those jerks! tell them what has happened, vent your feelings , this is your baby! you are doing all you can for her but get her to a vet ASAP! hugs and prayers to you and toffee. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Oh the poor little darling. I only have young pigs (below a year) so haven't encountered toothy problems yet, my lot look positively gummy ontop! I am praying for her, she looks a sweet little thing! The vet on the other hand needs a kick up the jacksy!

Hugs to you!

I've just come back and was hoping things might have improved, sorry to hear that they haven't. Poor girly. I think all you can do is keep her as quiet and comfortable as possible, and hope she fights to stay with us through the night.

Thinking of you - it's not much help I know, but we're all willing her to pull through.

Will check first thing in the morning to see if there's any news from you.

really hoping your baby toffee is feeng a bit better and that she is still here. i would definately complain to the new vet and tell them what your vet said about her teeth. no animal should suffer due to lack of knowledge by the vets! sending love and prayers to little toffee and to you to give you both strength to come through this. please keep us updated on the sweet angel. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks for all your lovely posts.

Sadly we lost Toffee some time between 2am and 4am this morning.

I'd been giving her water and recovery mixture every couple of hours and at 2pm she seemed a bit more livelier.

She was flat out on her tummy with her eyes closed so hoping she just drifted to sleep.

Thanks again for all you kind thoughs.

K

go eat the lush grass little toffee, rest in peace babe

B****y vets!

My thoughts are with you babybear and I entirely agree with mary's comments. If only there were more cavy savvy vets around.

RIP Toffee 0:)

Thanks everyone!

I thought I'd be ok - I've pretty much distanced my self to some extent and not gotten too emotionally attached to the girls(or so I thought) after the heart break of losing my first piggie Jaffa.

But sitting here my eyes keep filling up when I think about my poor girlie.

Have decided to write a letter to the manager of the vet practice expressing my disatisfaction at the treatment received and the lack of knowledge around treating smaller animals.

I doubt anything will come of it and sadly I know it's not incompetence so much as lack of training and knowledge in this specialist area.

I've had a couple of excellent recommendations for good vets so I will be registering Treacle with one of them should she have any issues in the future.

Awwww i know how you feel :'(

(((((((((((( BIG HUGS )))))))))))))) 0:) :smitten:

Good Luck in sending your letter ;)

good for you in writing them a letter. we have had guinea pigs for years and have never had a piggy with teeth problems, but seeing toffee's teeth in picture it is plain she had teeth problems even for a vet who knew nothing about guinea pigs could see this. especially when they charged you and claimed they had done her teeth. i guess i am just frustrated as vets here in oz are just as bad. good for you in deciding to go to another vet. guinea pigs have the knack of wiggling themselves into your heart no matter how hard you try not to let them. know you did all you could for toffee, perhaps send a letter to a guinea pig rescue or rspca with a copy of toffee's picture with her teeth. like i said before it won't bring toffee back but it might save another piggy and another owner going through the same heartache you're going through now. take care and know toffee is now at peace and watching over you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

So sorry to hear this, I'd been thinking about her all of last night! Poor girl, at least it was peaceful. Good idea to write a letter - at least you will have raised it as an issue and hopefully make them re-think their skills.

I'm so sorry you lost her. My vets are great so if you need one in future think about them. Sadly the SSPCA won't do anything, they have no legal powers over anything let alone vets. It's a good idea to contact the practice and perhaps copy the letter to the RCVS.

I'm really sorry my post has disappeared (puter probs)

Just want to also send my condolences for such a sweet little piggie :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
RIP Toffee run free at the bridge, no more pain just lots of friends and grass and dandelions to eat :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
(((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) for you and piggie kisses for little Treacle :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
