Hi,I’ve posted here about our guinea pig and probiotics when he was on Ronaxan. The 5 days course has finished a week ago, everything was getting better up to this morning, when we heard a grunting when breathing and discharge from one nostril again.I’m not sure what to do?Should I ask the vet for this same antibiotics? Thanks for any advice.

It’s possible that the five day course simply wasn’t long enough to kill off all the infection, some remained and has flared back up. Please do speak to your vet

All the best! Good that you have contacted your vet.

Hi,the vet gave us another course of this same antibiotic.Flower our guinea pig is doing great, the grunting and a nose discharge has stopped. He is eating more and putting on weight. However,I’m worry that the course of the antibiotics was broken and to short.(4 days, then 1 week break and another 6 days)I’ve read that it should be consecutive 10 days. Our vet says that it will be 10 days in total. Is that right?

A break will have meant that the antibiotic was out of the system and any bacteria that wasn’t killed off by it would have had chance to multiply again, hence the the return of symptoms. The second course will work on the remaining bacteria, whether it will be long enough to treat is a waiting game, so all i can really say is that once you’ve finished this course, if symptoms return, then go back to the vet but to my understanding, the break means that it hasn’t been a ten day course - we aren’t vets though
