[URGENT] Family took care of my piggy for TWO weeks, now when i got her i think she's on the verge of death.

sadly those questions i'm unable to answer.
i was able to feed her though, and she was standing on her two legs and reaching out of her cage for me too, and i did feed her her favorite snack
I'm sorry your parents aren't supportive (to say the least).
I'm glad your piggy seems to be happy in herself though, you obviously have a very close bond with her.

OK, thanks for letting me know about the hair colour and normal skin colour- I was just wondering if there was normally black hair there, which sometimes only grows from healthy black skin.

Can you show your parents this thread? I don't want you to get in trouble at all but they really need to see that she does needs to see a vet x
that sadly wouldn't work, although i wish it would.

I understand if you can't answer this question, but have your parents stated why they are strictly anti-vet? Is it the money, the process, a past experience, because she's a guinea pig, or the entire concept of professional medical/veterinary care?

don't worry about those things, but yeah, we really do have a close bond. she's around 6 years old too
and yeah, the skin / fur before the incident was pure white, and pink skin. she does have black hair and skin too, in different areas (pigmentation) this doesn't seem like it though. i suppose it is a scab

I'm wondering how you are? How is home life for you? I'm thinking that maybe home could be difficult for you too?

eh, it could be that it's because she's "just an animal", and that there's no real reason to get her help.
i can't really do anything either.

How is she doing today? Is she still eating and pooing normally and behaving like she usually does?

Okay, in what way does she seem more tired?
Is her fur puffed up, or is she rocking back and forth?
How's her skin on her bottom looking?

so, she's more tired in like, not running as much, laying more.
there's no change to her fur! it's the same. and she's not rocking back and forth at all.
the skin on her bottom has started becoming more white as far as i could see (the original colour of her bottom was pure white)
i may be able to figure out a way to go to a vet, but i really don't want them to take her away, whether away from me, or from life. they wouldn't right? :(

That sounds like good news to me- obviously I'm not a vet and I haven't examined her though. I couldn't comment on the tiredness I'm afraid. I'm glad her skin seems to be going back to normal.
Do you think the black thing is a scab?

If you could get her to a vet, that would be great. I don't think a vet would have any grounds to take her away from you as you clearly have her best interests at heart. It also doesn't seem like she's anywhere near unwell enough for euthanasia to be an option, and that is always the owner's decision anyway.

yeah, the black thing my family had said was a scab, and it seems to be healing? it just seems like it's a dent now. and thank you for the advice and reassurance!

that black thing again, is becoming whiter too, which was the previous tone of her skin

edit: nevermind, it hasn't changed at all, not healing, and is the exact same way. if it is a scab, it's very deep, and it's almost like a dent.
it's very very hard and is sort of crusty? it's very very firm, and very attached.

Honestly if you could get her to a vet, that would be great.
A vet wouldn't put her to sleep unless it was deemed necessary for her welfare so don't worry too much.
You're trying your best for her ❤️

OK, I don't know anything about the guinea pig healing process, but does it seem to be infected? Crustiness does make it sound more like a scab.

i'm trying my best, and i'm so very glad they wouldn't do that.

uhhhhh. hmm. i don't think it seems to be infected? not to me atleast, i can't really see a healing factor, but my family has told me that it's a scab. so i'm just gonna presume that it is, since it's acting like one, but the one weird thing is that it's DEEP. maybe not horrifically deep, but it's like a dent inside her. so i'm just worried at how this has affected her physically. but yeah, the chances of going to a vet increases per day, so we'll see.

As you have declared yourself to be a minor @gnpg222stardust I’m going to have to close your account and it will be anonymised. You’ve been given plenty of help & advice. You will be able to see the forum and this thread but you won’t be able to post.

The fact she's not really deteriorated yet is a great sign and means it's probably not fly strike. Good luck getting her to a vet.

Sorry to hear your account's going to be closed, I wish you the best of luck with everything. ❤
It sounds like your little piggy's on the mend.
I hope you can get her to a vet, and please look after yourself too. There is always support out there, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.

@VickiA can the poster make a new account when they become an adult if they still wish to be involved in the forum?

Yes, there’s nothing stopping them re-joining once they are old enough to use the forum
