Unusual brown urine

Hi,

I am new to this community and I am glad to be here. I have had 2 guinea pigs since 3.5 years now and fortunately they have not had any problems so far; however, I recently chamged their bedding to puppy pads that I change regularly and I noticed brown urine on the puppy pads. I have not seen this color before so I wanted to check if this is normal.

It looks to me like oxidized urine which is completely normal. When piggie wee is left to dry it often turns a rusty brown colour, I wouldn't worry unless it is red or pink.

Thank you. Would it still be normal if it came out that color? They have been only eating fresh veggies and hay. None of which are brown.

I'm not sure about fresh brown pee, could you please post a picture? Also, are they making any noise when peeing/pooping?

Their urine is usually milky white but oxidisation occurs and turns it that rusty colour

If you are concerned about the colour which it is coming out, then you would need to have a vet check done as it could be a sign of infection

They are not making any noise peeing/pooping. I will try to get a picture.

Hi! That is normal oxidisation that always occurs when pee is coming into contact with air. The longer the contact, the rustier the shade. Nothing to worry about.

Blood has a slightly different specific weight, so you notice it either as a small reddish drop or several in the middle of a rusty/orangey pee or if there is a real lot (which is rare) as a reddish or brown (but not rusty) ring of a different hue around the puddle. I can't see anything that would worry me.
