Tooth filing

Well he was awful all day then teatime made a miraculous recovery and was pottering round floor time, munching. He even wheeked at the salad bag (which we haven't heard him do in a couple of years) seemed to turn right around and then when it came to meds time he's lost it again. Absolutely terrified. I do wish there was a way to do this without them absolutely breaking down.

Ok, we have mastered a banana distraction technique that seems to be working and we can get the meds down without too much drama. He seems so much perkier today and there's lots of normal looking poops in the cage. Fingers crossed he's making a come back!

Argh the saga continues. Len is now MUCH better and is doing the best looking poops we have seen in a good while. He seems totally himself however...we now can't get his meds in. He's got another days worth to take but he is making it impossible. We've tried burrito'ing him and distraction techniques but he's throwing his head around, wriggling and I couldn't administer last night because he could have hurt himself. Now that we have missed a dose I'm a bit worried but just don't know what to do to get them in?

Are you having to do it by yourself?
I do my medicated animals on my own (hubby doesn’t have anything to do with my animals!), and with my uncooperative animal I sit on the floor with piggy between my legs facing away from me. I then lean forward and have one hand holding piggy stopping him from running forwards (can’t get backwards as I’m sitting there!) but gently holding his head stopping him from being able to turn away, the other hand is then free with the syringe. Aim syringe down the side of the mouth between the gap in the teeth.

If you’ve got someone with you then you still have two available hands so you can do the same thing just with having the other person hold the piggy.

We're tag teaming it with him wrapped in a blanket and guinea dad holding him on the bed/floor and then I'm trying to get the syringe in the side. It was tricky but managed it for the first few days but I think now he's got his strength back he's doing everything he can to throw us off. I nearly poked him in the eye last night.

Glad Len is feeling well enough to be naughty.

He's now taking it like a trouper after guinea dad stepped up...I think I must have been making him nervous. Appetite up to full whack, lots of healthy chocolate bananas and pottering round floor time like nothing happened.
I'm guessing it must have been the anaesthetic that knocked him for six. Good lad Len 💪
