I wanted to post this here because the hamstercentral forum is so dead now, seems to only be the same 3 (judgemental, and snooty, might I add) members on there constantly. It was so active when I first started keeping hamsters 2 years ago but now it's not even worth posting there anymore and it's just weird cause you're not even allowed to inform new members about the minimum cage size in fear of offending them if they're guilty of having a too small cage.
This is where I'll post all Todd's adorable photos and updates etc!

So, I did post the other day about getting my new baby syrian hamster, Todd. He was in a too-small-but-temporary cage because I didn't really think I'd find a hamster I liked when I went to Pets At Home so it was all a bit unplanned. His proper cage and all his toys arrived today and I set it all up for him! It's my biggest and best hamster cage yet. I can't wait till he wakes up later so I can watch him properly exploring it! It's the Barney cage from Zooplus, it's only £55 and it's 100cm by 50cm. I also want to add that if anyone on this forum wants to know anything about keeping hamsters I'm your go-to person to ask ;) I can't wait to show everyone more adorable photos of Todd. He's so hyper and fast it's hard to take photos, but I will try my best!

Love the cage set up.
Todd is not only a very lovely looking boy he’s also a very lucky hamster.

If we’re going to have a Todd thread I shall end up remembering how much I loved my hamsters and decide that, of course I can fit in 1 little hamster as well as the piggies!
:))

Do it! Get one! Something about hamsters makes me love them so much. They’re just so little and they have tiny little human hands!

That's one luxury hamster house, and you are tempting us all, I had hamsters during the 1980's and I still fondly remember Jupiter my dwarf albino special needs hamster... I had a lady hamster Margaret and my step brother had a male hamster Rocky so predictably we ended up with 9 hamsters but little Jupiter was so special needs, his mum and dad were just normal hamsters but he was tiny and epileptic and a bit not like the other hamsters so we kept him when the other babies were rehomed... I loved him so much!

We have 24 giant African snails and a tarantula and 54 rehomed lab snails from work and 3 piggies... but I think if hamsters arrived my husband would probably just go along with it, he was brought up with a herd of goats and a rescue horse and 9 rescue cats and some relocated rescue badgers in his garden so I think if I secretly updated our "pet diary" notebook where we record snail counts and piggy weights to include a hamster he might not notice!

Aww too cute. Looks just like my girl. Same cage as well! Sadly she passed away a few months back. I can't get any more. My heart can't cope with the loss :(

I got Todd because my other two hams are really old now and I know it'll be so crap when they pass, especially my other Syrian. so I'm hoping having Todd will help. It's so sad that their lifespans are so short, they're so easy to get really attached too. I got my first Syrian cause I'd been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years and needed something to look after and love so that I didn't feel so empty. It's gonna suck so bad when he passes :(

Aww he is beautiful. He looks so shiney, some satin in his breeding perhaps?

I like the barney but find the tiny doors annoying. Got the elmo xxl from german amazon when they were still exporting them. Big top and front doors. Love it.

Hamsters are such fun arent they? I also have a hybrid dwarf hamster an alaska cage from zooplus and two robos; one in a zoozone 1 which was sold as a guinea pig cage!?! and one in the grosvenor large rat and hamster cage.

I have the silent runner wheel for my syrian. It is great. Properly silent.

Arun looking cute n fkuffy. He was twomin feb.

Aww love hamsters. I’ve got 2 Syrians at the moment. Cody who’s really elderly and Belle who’s just nearly a year.

@flowerfairy I thought satin too, that's why I picked him! He's a lot shiner than my other two. It is hard to get used to the tiny doors, I have an Alaska too for my older Syrian. I've seen Guinea Pigs being kept in 80cm cages which is the absolute minimum I'd use for a Syrian, I could never keep a Guinea Pig in something that small. It's awful. I've heard good things about the silent runner, I just use the Trixie wheels cause they're cheaper, they're not that noisy and my hams are in my kitchen anyway so I don't need them to be silent. Arun is so cute! My older Syrian, Fred, is a long haired too. Although he's not looking so nice and fluffy in his old age. Here's a photo of Fred in his younger days:

Having a rest next to his wheel. He looks so different to Fred and his personality is so different already

So I was just thinking about Todd's name. I had the name Todd picked before I'd actually gotten him and when I got him I didn't think it suited him but couldn't think of anything else. I was just eating some Milka chocolate fingers that I got for my birthday and thought MILKA! Cause he's the colour of Milka chocolate! What does everyone think about me renaming him to Milka? Which name suits him better?

Milka is s great name!

I'm totally renaming him Milka. IT'S SO PERFECT. How do I change the title of this thread to Milka The Ham's Thread?

Hi... as well as my 2 piggies I have a little Syrian hamster called Piggle who is approximaty a year old. She is just gorgeous, I will post some photos.
She has lost a little weight recently and has issues with her teeth. She’s been treated for possible mites and has just had her teeth burred so I’m currently giving soft food only.
However, I wanted to know what people thought about an average weight for a Syrian. The vet commented that she was a little on the skinny side so I’ve increase her protein intake; weighed her today and she’s gained a little weight and is now 157 grams. Is this ok for a Syrian? She’s active and friendly as usual.
