My female 3 year old guinea girl appears tired, she flops down often & just doesn't seem herself. She is eating ok and has moments of normal activity but seems lethargic. Any helpful ideas please?

Hi!

Please see a vet as soon as possible and have her thoroughly checked through, especially the heart.
How long has this been going on and which country are you in?

Are you monitoring her weight daily at the same time instead of weekly? It is impossible to judge the hay intake just by eye but it makes about 80% of what a piggy eats in a day; they can lose a lot of weight quickly without you being really aware of.

:agr: If you are concerned, then speak to a vet.

It would be helpful if you monitor her weight more closely by weighing her more regularly to ensure that she is in fact eating enough - you can’t gauge their hay intake by eye

Good idea to get a vet check, has she lost any weight at all? If she is a bit off colour its a good idea to weigh daily at the same time/ same point in the feeding cycle to see if there is any downward trend over a few days, until you see the vet!

Many thanks for all of your helpful advice. My guinea girl has fully recovered, I'm really happy to say. It seemed she did not like the hot weather we were having. The hutch now has plenty of shadesunnybdayss &

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I did wonder about possible heart problem. It seems, however, that she was overheating with the hot weather. Havw purchased large run with plenty of shade. Hutch is also kept shady. She now seems fine. Thank you.
