In 2 of my cages I find tiny flies in one cornor of both cages, the cage was cleaned and disinfected and yet they have returned within 12 hours, these flies are tiny and there are loads of them, it does not matter what bedding we use it still happens.
It is only in the girls cages, I have 3 cages with the boys in and no flies...
These cages are in my bedroom and next to a wall, not near a window, so what are these flies and why are there so many off them and why do they stay in the cage and not go to other cages....
The cages are plastic.
I am really at my wits end on how to get rid of the flies....

could they be small fruit flys? mine are outside but sometimes no matter how clean they seem to smell the fruit or veg and go to it in droves.
i usually try to squash them lol but its impossible to do that lol

I had tiny flies like this in a batch of hay I got once, would this be possible? If you are cleaning the cage but putting new hay from a contaminated batch back in, this may be it?

hm, not nice. I have fly papers near my guineas hutch, they aren't nice to look at but do the job

i get bales of hay...i don't get the flys all the time just when its humid lol maybe they sense animals...horses usually get them around their bodies don't they? lol so many types of flies

either one is possible, I will get hay from some where else next time, as we brought 3 bags in one go. but I still do not understand why it only happens in 2 out of 5 cages?

good idea...i used to use them and they are good...do they catch little flies though? i always caught bigger flies that go in and out the house

maybe the females give off a hormone which they smell and are attracted to...lol we need scientists to answer this

Fly paper, 1st time I used fly paper I thought I had to pull all the dead flies off with tweezers but Kyle told me not to be so stupid pow-pow . I have had fly paper stuck to my hair before, this is when we lived in a really old damp cottage.

Kyle said they do look like fruit flies, I try to squish them, some time they look like the flies jump rather than fly.

My cat does not go in my bedroom and I do check him daily/comb him for fleas and I never find any on him, plus he is treated monthly.
