I want to know if anyone has had their guinea pig prescribed it? Liquorice is now on day 7, her eye's cleared up, but I now think the drops are irritating her eye, and upon looking at the leaflet, this is one of the undesired side effects, including pain.. She has what looks to be a tiny white patch on her iris (the drops dilate the pupil), i think maybe irritation caused by the drops, noticed it yesterday.
She goes back tomo to have her eye checked, but wondered, would it be best to take her off the drops as the original injury has now healed? The leaflet says irritation stops immediately as soon as meds taken away..
She has her eye fully open now, but dislikes the drops immensely (she was ok about it for the first 5 days but now the crafty piggie has learnt how to expel the drop before it reaches her eye), I have quite a battle now to administer it..

Hay poke, we weren't sure whether she'd punctured the cornea - she'd got an infection from it, and her eye had developed a blueish tint.
It's now returned to it's brown iris and black pupil colour (within 14 hours you wouldn't know anything was wrong), and looks the same as the other eye..

ah ok, the white dot sounds to me like a small ulcer, often caused by damage to the surface of the eye.

I'd keep her on the drops, there's only going to be one or two doses left now, and see what the vet says tomorrow :)

Vet visit

Her eye is fine, it's not an ulcer like I first thought, it's something to do with the eye trying to heal the original injury.. he used the green dye, which revealed a healthy eye, then put drops in to numb the eye then wiped the white area with a cotton bud, which caused it to bleed a bit.
So, she's off the antibiotics, and it's now a waiting game to see how the white patch heals over the next few days, hopefully this will be the end of it, as apart from the white patch (a raised area) the pupil, iris and cornea are completely healed..

Eye has improved immensely since taken off antibiotics last night, gave her eye lids a wipe as some of the green dye had crusted in the corner. Apart from that the eye looks healed, and the raised white patch has shrunk a bit :)
