Just wondering, i would like to foster/or rescue some pigs from freeads...but the prob is they would have to stay outside.

They'd be in my brick summer house, in cavy cage style cages. (with boxes and masses of hay to snuggle in).

No heating I'm afraid....what do you think?

Firstly, I think that you woul b much bttr off fostring for/hlping a local rscu than going it alon an starting to "rcu" from th fras.
Whil I am sur that your hav th bst of intntion, whn you collct guinas lik this you hav no ia what you will collct. |Thy oftn hav th gnr wrong, thy may b prgnant, ill, hav fungal an parasitic infctions...or all of th aformntion :-\

Not bing ru but ar you an ault ([colorr]I'm not asking your ag) an in work? Bcaus you will no oubt fin yourslf with som hfty vt bills. For xampl if you tak a prgant sow in, sh ns a casarian out of hours, you will n to b abl to gt hr thr at any tim ay or night an pay in th rgion of ? £200 + ++
You can't hsitat, ithr or qustion if you can or cannot affor it...you must.

My rscu guinas ar initially inoors all yar aroun.

It's lovly that you want to hlp, but as w hav sai, collcting fr from a papr avrt is th asy part...it's th fllow up car, rhoming an vt xpnss that mak it ifficult.

Guina pig rscu isn't asy an is bst lft to thos with xprinc. I was scrtary/fostrr/homchckr of a local gnral animal rscu for 7 yars bfor starting my own small rscu. I was also working as a nurs an in a position to fun it.
Plas gt som xprinc first by voluntring at your narst rscu cntr :)

Hi Mandy. I'm no expert but I know there are some people on here that keep their pigs outside, and mine are going to be in the shed in 'indoor' cages this winter. I've already got blankets ready to put over the top of the cages in cold weather and I've got wooden boxes to put hay in for them to snuggle into. I'm also planning to get a couple of those things you put in the microwave for them too. I know most people recommend you keep them in the house, but I think a brick outhouse would be fine as long as they're not used to being kept inside and the shock would be too much. The grids might be a bit 'open' for winter, but if you can figure out a way to make them warmer, eg bubble wrap, blankets etc, I don't see a problem.

I know lots of people say keep them inside but I think if it's not possible a brick summer house is a good alternative.

Mine have always been kept in a shed, they run loose with open hutches to go in/under, they also have an infra red lamp on all night, which they think is heaven. Are you able to get some power out there? Things like cardboard boxes stuffed with hay are popular, make sure it's not in a draught. Also make sure the water bottles don't freeze, you can buy special bottle covers (or just wrap some cardboard round several times - cheaper!). Having said all that, I do feel sorry for mine out in the Winter & will be bringing them indoors from about November. If they're in a hutch in the building it's double protection, I personally would never keep one in a hutch outside all year round. A good idea is to have a thermometer in the shed, one of those minimum/maximum ones, so you know just how cold it is dropping in the middle of the night.
