I woke yesterday morning and before i even go downstairs, i always check the pigs are ok , have water, hay food etc, and yesterday noticed Thor's eye was very swollen, panic set in as hes very special to me, so rang vets and they said can i see anything in his eye, i could'nt see a thing it was that swollen, his eye was practically shut :( he then said try flushing with some water, this took some attempts as thor's not the pig for sitting still, even more so when hes uncomfortable, my heart was in my mouth, then i seen it, a hay seed was stuck right in the corner of the top of his eye, after and hour of trying we finally got it out :) what a relief, the swelling seemed to instantly go down, and thor was back to his cheeky self. He even gave me a kiss, so must of known i was helping him, even if he did'nt like me wrapping him in a towel. Checked on him this morning and his eye is completely back to normal, such a relief :)

Great catch! Keep an eye on it, excuse the pun, to see if it doesn't infect

Will do, that's what vets said to keep an eye for, but fingers crossed all is good now, cant believe how fast the swelling went down, i was panicking on phone thinking he was gonna lose his eye :(

I had trouble a few years ago but grass seeds in my hay. Two of the guinea pigs got one if their eyes and one poor piggy got one in each eye! Thankfully after flushing the eye and within a few days the eye was normal but kept a eye in case this doesn't happen.

its scary how something so small can irritate our piggys so much, their my babys and hate to ever see them like that, will be keeping an eye out on my hay now to see if theres excessive amounts of seed in there :)

Something similar happened with one of my guinea pigs - he managed to get some hay stuck in his eye and it turned all swollen. Never seen such a grumpy guinea pig. Once it was removed and cleaned up it calmed down within hours.

Glad you managed to get the seed out, I would've gone into major panic mode if I couldn't get the seed out.
