The Handsome Boar Thread

Here is gorgeous Theo from many different angles! He has such a babyface still and ickle-wickle cutey paws... but he would like to remind everyone that he is 1150g of rippling boar heft now and very grown up at almost 2 years old!

I bought these Inconti-Pet® Puppy Kitten Whelping Washable Reusable Absorbent Training Pad | eBay after @PigglePuggle said how good they were. I use them in my hutch. I put loads of hay on the top of them I have cut them to size in the top of the hutch but on the bottom I just use 2 side by side. They are very good and are getting better the more I use and wash them. I use a horse wash bag so that all the hay stays in the bag and doesn't clog up my machine. I think @PigglePuggle uses fleece on the top. I'm sure she will be along to advise.
If I were a sow, I would marry Bacon in a flash. I absolutely luff him 🥰

Here are my boars Toffee & Fudge.

My Tommy - he was handed into the RSPCA as a stray ... he had fur loss because of mites.

This photo was a few months ago after he came to live with me .. now is he bigger, better and a step-dad 💕

Oh Tommy, you are such a handsome chappie, love the colour of your coat 😍

Here are my current (all neutered) Tribe boars:

Pioden 'Magpie'
(b. 2014, adopted March 2017 from The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue )
The no longer wanted widower became Maelog's successor with the ginger group (2017-19) which morphed into the Old Ladies group this year. My huge but shy and bashful boy is now a happy daddy boar to little Dryw after losing all his previous four wives over the course of just one year.
Pioden was surrendered without a name to his credit. His Tribe name is for his looks.
IMG_8889_edited-2.jpg

Gethin 'Dusky' (b. 2015, adopted March 2016 from RSPCA Walsall)
The old Tribe peru ladies' caring toy boy (2016-19); now living with young peru supermodel Carys who I adopted for him a year ago when his remaining wife Ffwlbri had reached the ripe old age of 7 1/2 years; Ffwlbri lived for nearly another year until the heat spike at the end of July was too much for her frail body to cope with.
Gethin was rescue dated with Tegan but dumped by her a couple of hours after their arrival at home. Instead Tegan's 5 years old mother Tesni (and later bereaved auntie Ffwlbri) took one look and fell head over heels for Gethin; a mutual love affair that lasted for over 2 years until Tesni's death.
Gethin was rescued from a house overrun with guinea pigs as part of a larger intake. He was the one out of 5 or 6 boys she was looking after that his fosterer recommended as the gentlest of the boys.
Tesni 'Sun-warmed' and her sister Ffwlbri 'Moonlight' were both named for their coats, so Gethin fitted perfectly into the theme!

Nye 'Noble' (b. 2016, adopted November 2016 from The Potteries GPR)
Nosgan's perfect yin-yang foil in looks and outlook (2016- May 2019).
Nye was an impulsive last minute addition to two free to a good home free-ads piggies that were being collected by a rescue volunteer. According to his owner, Nye was one year old even though his testicles were just starting to descend and he went through all the classic stages of puberty over the coming months, despite his neutering operation. Nye has the chronic skin problems often connected with teddies. He is also struggling with recurring skin parasites embedded in his skin.
Now a very diligent and dutiful husboar (especially during any seasons) to his previous neighbours Hyfryd and Hirael.
IMG_5688_edited-2.jpg

Barri 'Summit' (b. 2016, adopted June 2017 from TEAS)
Living with long-suffering gentle Briallen and off-and-on with Llawen (currently on again) and her feuding sister Hapus (currently off).
He was a vet surrender due to a severe wrongly DIY treated case of ringworm. He is a friendly boy who occasionally gets his knickers in a twist and needs a short out-time to calm down again.
His name is referring to his little ginger toupe; it a little tribute to my beloved and much missed Terfel, who was named for his distinctive ginger crown.
IMG_0603_edited-1.jpg IMG_9796_edited-1.jpg

Gareth Rhonwellt 'Gentle Timothy' (rescue name was Tiny Tim) (b. 2016, adopted August 2017 from BARC)
Gareth is named in honour of forum member Tim who rescued his pregnant mother; Gareth was incidentally born on Tim's birthday.
He is proud of being owned by his forceful ladies Tegwen and Meleri and proud of doing what he is being told (including being proud)!
IMG_9745_edited-1.jpg

Dylan (kept his Welsh rescue name) (b. 2016, adopted July 2018 from The Potteries GPR)
Ex-single hamster cage boar with a weak back end, who couldn't cope with his baby boy companion Llelo once Llelo refused to submit abjectly as a teenager, but he is now happily bonded with his small sow-wife Begw (again a baby adoptee) - although he has learned to listen when she complains!
Dylan is a charmer with some social deficits due to being stuck all on his own in a 'starter cage' for two years.
IMG_9561_edited-1.jpg

Llelo 'Little Llewelyn' (named in memory of Tribe founder Llewelyn who also had one ginger and one white side)
(b. August 2018, private intake Sept. 2018)
Pet shop pregnancy baby that was born here when I emergency holiday boarded his highly pregnant mother and her sister. He returned to live with Dylan after his separation from his mother at 3 weeks. After his split from Dylan he was told by Miaren that his pen and person were to her liking (in that order!) Unfortunately for Miaren, he is now old and big enough to do some telling of his own...
PS: Gareth is very grateful about Miaren's unilateral decision to move out and divorce herself, as his life has become a lot more peaceful without sisters Miaren and Meleri squabbling all the time. He hasn't been told by his remaining wives that he should be grateful, but he nevertheless is; very!
IMG_0260_edited-1.jpg

Alan (b. 2018, adopted yesterday from Neville's Nest with the option to return to the rescue if he fails to bond with any of my tricky sows).
He is a well looked after boar that has been surrendered to rescue by a teenager who felt they no longer had the time he deserved.
Right now he is busy settling in and filling the room with excited boar stink!

My RIP Tribe boars:

Llewelyn 'Lugh&Belenus'
(the Celtic gods of Light and Fire) (b. 2006, adopted from defunct Hopper Haven rescue Oct 2007, RIP Jan 2011)
Llewi was rescued in bad state and with half an ear missing from a pen he shared with chickens, rabbits and other guinea pigs at a wildlife place in Midwales. He kept his rescue name; hence the Welsh name theme with my Tribe piggies!
After the death of his beloved older lady Dizzy he became my very competent Tribe founding patriarch (2009-2011)
IMG_0004_edited-3.jpg

Hywel 'Eminent' (b. 2009, adopted Feb 2011 from defunct Cheylesmore GPR, RIP Sept 2016)
He was Llewelyn's charismatic successor (2011-2014) and leader of the long-haired half of the Tribe after the split (2014-16);
Hywel was a very dominant boar who was surrendered to rescue because he bullied every boy he was introduced to but was clearly unhappy in a hutch all of his own. Ruling a harem of up to 13 wives for the following 5 1/2 years was decidedly more to his liking!
IMG_7038_edited-2.jpg

Terfel 'Oak Prince' (b. 2010, adopted fom defunct RNPG Welfare Rugby July 2011, RIP May 2015)
The gentle, quiet and unassuming master diplomat who kept this formidable cataract wives under control without them noticing (2011-15) - although they were the ones who faced off any danger with him hiding behind them!
Terfel was rescued in bad state from a shed full of neglected, fighting boars.
Terfel is named for his distinctive ginger coronet crown; my Tribe name choice for Barri is a little tribute to Terfel.
IMG_5450_edited-4.jpg IMG_6201_edited-1.webp

Bryn Oscar (The Name Deaf) (b. 2007, adopted Aug 2012 from BARC, RIP Sept 2013)
The poor old widowed and then stuck in rescue 'gent' turned out to be a first rate pirate who cut a swathe through the retired Tribe ladies.
He even looked like a pirate with one eye having a pale lid and the other one a dark one in the style of Captain Jack Sparrow, which gave him a very unique look. Old age was puffing rather badly by the time it finally caught up with him!
Bryn 'Hill' is a in the way of a little hidden joke of mine since I love the voice of internationally renowned Welsh opera singer Bryn Terfel!
IMG_5772_edited-2.jpg

Maelog 'Battle Prince', previous name Mallow (b. 2010, fostered Feb-July and then adopted from TEAS Sept 2013, RIP Feb 2017)
A fallen-out companion to a dental TEAS resident, who was allowed to think he was the leader of the ginger half of the Tribe after the split and after the death of wife Rhosyn/Rosa, another TEAS resident (2014-17). The distinguished George Clooney among my husboars.
If piggies come with a well-established name, I try to find a similar sounding Welsh one, if that is possible.
DSCN2973_edited-2.jpg

Bedo 'Little Splendid Lord' (b. 2012, adopted Feb 2014 from The Potteries, RIP July 2018)
The perfect family man and nursery nurse for my temporary TEAS fosters and my adopted Triplets (2014-18).
He and his fallen-out companion were found in a cardboard box on Cannock Chase open park land on a cold October morning. His great looks were a real surprise when I turned up with the three top sows in tow for rescue dating; he was as beautiful inside as outside.
When a bonding of a TEAS foster sow pair into the group failed shortly afterwards, Bedo fell hard for one of the new sows (a ginger aby) and was given the choice wich sows he wanted to live with. Newly bereaved Maelog then took over the abandoned group from him while Bedo faced the challenge of looking after the lively TEAS baby triplets and making his patchwork family work.
IMG_4156_edited-2.jpg

Carwyn 'Blessed Love' (b. 2012, adopted May 2015 from North East Guinea Pig Rescue, RIP Oct 2018)
My very vocal Marshmallow Lord of his Liquorice Allsorts wives (2015-18) after spending 3 miserable years in a one foot square neglect breeder box. The disfigured lip is a legacy from that time.
Carwyn had to learn how to run from his adored wifelet Heini who he was paired up with after being a caring companion to ca. 8 years old lady Ffraid in her last weeks. He has definitely made up in the second half of his life on what he has missed out during the first half, and then some!
DSCN3482_edited-3.jpg

Nosgan 'Nightsong' (b. 2014, adopted Sept 2016 privately with permission of the RSPCA Walsall, RIP May 2019)
He was an emergency RSPCA intake at a time the rescue was full to bursting, so little is known about his background. Nosgan came here when he failed to bond with either of the sow groups of his previous owner after the death of his boarmate.
The skittish and grumpy neutered boar (previous name Victor 'I can't believe it' Meldrew) turned out to prefer a boarmate to any sow! Shy lurker Nosgan found lasting happiness with his little sidekick, cheeky chappy Nye.
Since Nosgan wasn't into ladies, the pair was able to peacefully live first next door to spayed Nesta and then mother and daughter pair Hyfryd and Hirael.
Nosgan got his Tribe name because he was so skittish that you could only hear him, but not see him!
