Tallulah has an abscess :(

Much better, he's been down to 1 half-hour evening care work call because one of his elderly folk is in hospital, but now he's got 3 calls so I get a quiet evening at home with a bottle of wine for me and a nice bag of salad for the piggies and nobody dipping biscuits in my sterile saline :)
Sounds like everything a woman could possibly need. Especially the biscuit-free sterile saline 🤣

So glad to hear Tallulah the Tenacious is doing so well - we're all rooting for her here :D

Thanks @David Pet Lover, it was a routine abscess removal with some weird post-op complications, but little bat-hippo is hanging in there and getting better! And she's currently snuffling up spinach and rocket salad with a side order of red peppers like crazy :)

Tallulah is just back from the vets, she's doing very well! She's had a thorough wound clean with hibiscrub and scrubbing off the scabby bits, and here's a comparsion of her wound now (still a bit gruesome but a lot better)

That's much smaller and cleaner looking, right? There was a tiny bit of infection but quite superficial, just under the biggest scab- the vet scrubbed everything out and we just need to keep up the baytril, loxicom, and twice daily saline flushes and manuka honey. I'm really happy with how things are going :)
it looks like nice healthy granulation tissue, it will be healed before you know it!

Not about the abscess wound today... but Tallulah came up to the cage bars and took food from my hand today for the first time! A big piece of red pepper then she did a brave happy popcorn dance :) She must be forgiving me for all the saline squirting and honey!

I think today is the first time she's properly enjoyed playpen time, still a bit nervous being out in the open but when she does a brave thing she does little zoomy victory laps! She was letting Blodwen lick her ears through the cage bars, and they were playing a game where they picked up the same hay strand from either side of the bars and raced for who could eat most, then they met in the middle for piggy kisses :)

I noticed we needed a lot less honey tonight to fill the hole, and all the swelling is gone- her lovely skinny pig skin folds around her neck are there again, which means getting her to arch her back and put her head down to find where to put the honey in! Holding her front end up a couple of inches above some baby kale leaves seemed to do the trick :)

So proud of my little bat hippo, look how small her wound is now:

She's been an absolute angel with the saline flushes and manuka honey, and now she's always coming to the bars wheeking for veggies when she sees us rather than running away :)
Vets tomorrow, bit worried its a different vet but hopefully it should be a very routine wound check and scrub and another tube of prescription honey... we know the drill by now!
Hard to believe its only 2 weeks since I first spotted the abscess, 12 days since the surgery, 8 days since the wound went awful and burst open and she had all that emergency buprenorphine... what a clever little healing up hippo, and getting so friendly with us with all that going on, she's an absolute star!

That's just incredible! I thought it'd take much longer to heal. She really is made of strong stuff. Go Go little bat hippo! 😀

You and Piggy Daddy are complete stars!🌠🤩 That hole has healed very fast. I'll have to think of a different name now! Happy non holey bat hippo pig!:D🦇🦛🐖
