Taking on "Ex-breeding stock"?

(Slightly off topic, but just to agree with some comments, Joanne/Allan, we do have piggies coming in for very very genuine reasons, and the families are heartbroken, I have comforted a couple of people who have given me pigs. However, they are very much in the minority) Sadly breeders and/or breeding seem to provide a large proportion of our rescues. We love them all, whatever their background. x

Thanks for all the opinions everyone! It turns out that these particular girls haven't been bred from, but I've arranged to go and collect them tomorrow, taking Indy with me though so we'll only be bringing them back if she's in agreement, so fingers crossed.

I agree that it is more responsible for the breeder to be looking for new homes themselves than dumping them in rescue! And she's also willing to take them back if it doesn't work out, will be providing some dry food, etc. I haven't been asked any questions about how I'll be keeping them though...

I would definately take on piggies from a breeder if they are wanting to "give them away". I wouldn't pay for them but if they are offering them for free I would snap them up before somebody who doesn't have a clue takes them to breed off. After all the breeder wouldn't bat an eyelid if another breeder wants them to breed off!

Good luck, hope you all get on together!
