Hi! *waves* first post here.

The young boar in question is my boy, Velix. I simply haven't found anything similar to compare.

Velix is completely white, except for a 'mask'. The mask is chocolate brown and symmetrical. Has anybody witnessed anything like this? Does anybody own a pig with similar markings? In all of two years, I have managed to find only pigs that have uneven, 'spoldge' masks, always with colouring around the back end or elsewhere, so I assume this is quite rare.

I have to say, after owning him for a while, I have a huge desire to find somewhat similar females and create some type of masked pig. Everybody can dream, right? Anyway, now for the handsome boy himself! (His fur is quite messy due to being stroked in these pictures, if anybody would like a picture of his fur brushed neatly to see the symmetry better, just ask :)

A young Mr. Pig. As you can see, there is an upside-down 'V' on his forehead, symmetrical lines coming in under his eyes, and a triangle of white on his nose.

And this one simply because he's a goober :P

Any insight would be great! Thanks, hope you all have a lovely day<3

I don't have any pigs like this, but I think I've seen similar ones before (on here probably!)

He's a very handsome boy :)

Hello! Welcome to the forum. He is lovely drool x) and obvioulsy a very talented gamer too. I take it he loves the xbox :))

I haven't seen many piggies with so Symetrical markings

Looking forward to seeign more of him on the forum.

Hello :) Welcome to the forum. He's lovely! My friend has just had a litter and one of the babies had similar markings to this.

Hi and welcome! Your boy is very handsome indeed! Symmetrical masks are much rarer. They are what you would technically call mismarked dutch piggies and they come in all shapes and colours, with or without markings on the rump end.

Please be aware that we are a strictly non-breeding forum and that it is against the rules to talk about intentional breeding. Sadly, the percentage of pregnancies and births going wrong for mum and pups is very high in guinea pigs due to the long pregnancy, apart from the fact that it is not advisable to breed from piggies whose ancestry and inherent risks you have no idea about. We see the sorry results all the time; it can be a very heart breaking experience!

Thanks everybody for your comments. Oh yes, he loves his xbox. He especially loves the noise when we turn it off to go bed, he sings along with it because he knows he's getting fed!

A mismarked dutch? Well, that makes things easier, thanks! Yeah, after completing my breeding and genetics course I'm aware of the dangers of breeding piggies. It's a lovely idea, but we most likely won't unless we find a perfect young girl, but that's not for here.

Please please consider the safety of the sows when breeding...I've seen all to many breeding attempts gone wrong :/ it's better to avoid it all together...

Hi I hope you enjoy the forum and stay around. Your piggy is very handsome x)

I just want to mention tho the possibilty that he is a 'hidden roan'. Roans generally have a solid coloured head and roaning on their bodies ( ie their bodies are a solid colour speckled with white hairs). Where piggies have white patches obviously the roaning can't be seen against a white background. Although it covers his whole body the area of white on your piggy is in fact a large patch, so he could be a roan without you knowing

You maybe aware that roans carry a 'lethal gene', which in simple terms means that if you bred a roan to a roan 25% of the babies would be microphthalmic, often refered to as 'lethals' which means they would be pure white, blind and often with other congenital defects. Many such babies only live for a few hours or days.

If you bred your pig with an other that looked like him, without knowing their breeding there is a possibilty they could both be roans so it is simply not worth the risk.

Apologies if this post is classed as 'discussing breeding' but i thought it too important not to mention :)
