Does anyone know how much water to add? The vet sold me two sachets of powder and a syringe but there are no instructions. Have tried the website but it says ask your vet and they are shut now?

Hi I'm not sure (have you tried googling it?) I'd suggest making it into a paste that is runny enough to be able to get into the syringe (they did give you a 1ml syringe?)
How big are the sachets?
If you use pellets you can soften them by using boiled and cooled water and make them into a paste and it works just the same as the recovery mix. If your pig is being syringe fed you will need to get ALOT into him xx

Its a 20g sachet and it says use one sachet per kg bodyweight but the vet said don't make up a whole packet in one go as it only keeps 24 hours. i'll go for a syringeable gloop and hope he doesn't end up wearing it!

if he's not eating very well you'll probably have to try and get the whole sachet into him over 24 hrs. He needs to eat every 4 hours to keep his gut mobile. Please contact guinea pig helpline for some advice with your piggie www.guineapighelpline.com x

Hiya,

If the sachets you have are about 10x10cm in size I usually mix the contents with about 5-10ml of water but it really shouldn't matter too much as long as you can make it up into a syrinable paste. If your pig will take it off a finger as some of them will (it seems to be quite tasty for them) then thicker is usually easier, if not then you may need to make it a bit runnier in order to actually syringe it down. As Piggiepal says he will probably need at least 1 sachet's worth a day split into 4-hourly feeds whilst he's still not eating but if they aren't too reluctant to take it I'll usually feed as much as I can get into them (within reason obviously!)
Hope he gets well soon!

My vet also said 70ml of water .... but I guess if its more watery or less it wouldnt matter really....

When I syringe fed mine some went down her chest, some down me, some on the floor..... and I think some actually went in her mouth ..... good luck

Yes we're getting in a right mess, what with that and the hibiscrub and honey! I have just watched him eat some cabbage leaf and a nibble of carrot so hopefully starting to feel better.
