Suitable setup?

I have 8x8 grids. I haven't seen my adult piggies go through the holes though. Their heads don't fit. Yes, for baby piggies, they can fit in the grids. But since I don't use corex in their cage and just put the grids on top of the fleece, when I have a baby piggy, I covered the grids with cardboard. Something like the photo below (I used to have 6x6 grids that hubby had for years, then changed it to 8x8). If the cage would have corex, I think having 8x8 grids is fine.

You're right, the picture shows only 8x8 and that means the holes are too large. The best thing to do is to make sure that whatever you're using as a base goes a decent way up the sides with no gaps. If you have babies, that applies to a 9x9 too, as babies can get their heads stuck through their holes of a 9x9. You could fix some corrugated cardboard behind the coroplast if what you bought originally isn't high enough.

Thank you. Coroplast not very high so will look at doing that. I’ve contacted the company to complain - feel really disappointed as they specified it was safe for adukt Guinea
pigs.

The issue is that young pigs can escape and older ones could get their heads stuck in there.

I’ve added cardboard for now and have ordered some 9x9 grids. We were planning on extending anyway as we got boys instead of girls and someone mentioned them needing a bit more space. I’ve asked the original company to refund the grid cost but not holding out much hope! Also got taken by an expanded loft area so I’m sure the boys will be happy!

Thanks - I’ve put cardboard round it for now. I’m a worrier so have ordered new grids and will use the others for a stand. I guess any risk is low but one of them is a bit smaller than the other and I won’t be able to relax with it now
