There's something I need to get off my chest. Yesterday I got two beautiful and very social guinea pigs from a woman who said that they weren't show quality so she didn't want them anymore. The second I paid her for the pigs she says "Oh, by the way the brown one might be pregnant, I just took her away from the boar yesterday." So then I take her to the vet and guess what? They're is a "strong chance" she's pregnant! GRRRRRR! I just can't believe that the woman I got her from was dumb enough to tell me that AFTER I had paid her. Thoughts?

This is the reason I wouldn't buy from breeder or show-er personally. Highly likely that she is pregnant if she has been in with a male

As there is a strong chance, please put her on pregancy watch for the next 10 weeks. Weighing weekly, keeping a general eye on her shape and behaviour should give a good indication in the later weeks. Here is our link on pregnancy. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/s...ad.php?t=83813

Also, I would add unfortunatly this is not at all a rare or unusual sittutation. This is why we as a forum promote rescuing from piggy bank recomended rescues, however not everyone is aware of the problems when they get their first piggies. Hopefully you will learn loads here and if you ever get any more they will be rescue pigs :)

I have her on some extra good food for the time being in case she is going to have babies. She seems to be eating more than the other one who is not pregnant (confirmed by vet) so I'm thinking she is pregnant. I'll post pictures on Monday as they are living at my friend Katlynn's house and that's when I get to see them again. Their names are Missy and Lady. Missy is the one that we suspect is pregnant. Lady is the one that likes to give kisses to everyone :) (By the way these were rescue pigs, the woman wanted to sell to them to a snake food shop and I stepped in to save them before they were eaten by a python).

By rescue piggies, we mean piggies that have been at a rescue and then adopted by you. :)

Please dont give her extra food! This will make pups very large and hard to pass. Please have a read of the pregnancy advice thread I linked you too (this includes and ask any questions you may have that arnt answered in the thread)

I think saving Piggys from the jaws of a python is rescuing so well done for that :)

@Connie, I meant super high quality food, not more than what the other one is getting. I've studied up on what is good and bad to do in this situation and have warned others against this person and her operation. I've already had 3 other people say that she did the same thing to them and 2 out of the 3 said that their sows did give birth. I just hope I'm not going to be in the same boat as the other two. Too many unwanted piggies in this world to add more...

Ahhh, Sorry, My fault for the misunderstand! I'm glad your so well informed. :) Keeping my fingers crossed for you and the girls! :)

They're doing great! Lady, the one who is NOT pregnant, is so happy in her new cage that she's popcorning around like a little kid at Christmas. Missy is more calm about her new surroundings but is still very happy that she has a friend to play with and an abundance of chew toys. She has figured out how to ring a bell attached to one of the toys and now rings it whenever she wants anything which is very frequently.

OMG......... i've just read your post!
how mean and horrible......GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..... best not say anymore about that lady (who in my terms is not a hooman at all!) :x

whee wish little Missy all the best xoxo
if you like you can post a pregnancy thread in our pregnancy area for some great advice and support from the experienced peeps :)

Gentle snuggles for Missy and Lily XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Utterly disgusting how someone can own an animal, use it for her own benefit and then pwn it off to be snake food after she is done with it! :)>>>

I am very glad to hear the piggies are with you and from the sounds of it they will have a fantastic home. Well done to you. :<>

So it turns out this woman has done this to at least three other people and 2 out the three that I talked to said their pigs delivered within a month of purchase. The last one dodged a bullet by ending up with what turned out to be a boar. This person is now going on the "list of people who I hope end up in jail".

Hi,

This person is now going on the "list of people who I hope end up in jail".

I love it! I think i should make one of these lists (it will be very long!).

Well done for saving these poor babies from a terrible end.

Helen x

Could you contact the ASPCA and see if they can do anything with her. Maybe illegal or irresponsible breeding? So glad you saved them!

I don't know her last name, only her first (Ashley). Plus the business card she gave me has a number that is "no longer in use". No last name on it, just the name Ashley and the number. It's obvious that she knows how not to get to caught. I wouldn't be shocked if she has been in trouble before for a similar crime.

Sounds very fishy. You could give the address of where you got the pigs and they might be able to do something. It's hard to say though.

Pig Update: Lady is now a dandelion addict and has a crush on the pig next door, so to speak :) . His name is Punky because he has a mohawk down his back due to being the product of abyssinian mix parents. Punky wheeks his heart out whenever she is far away.
