Big high five to Highcroft Vets in Bristol (Sonya and her team) today.
Our guinea has had bladder sludge/stones identified last week. We have been monitoring it after x-ray/ultrasound and blood testing initially.

This morning at 7am we came down and Tahini was clearly completely blocked in the urethra, she was straining like mad to try and pass the blockage. An emergency!

We were at Highcroft Vets within an hour (on a Bank Holiday Monday!) and they have managed under opioid pain killer to remove a very nasty looking arrow shaped stone which was followed by copious blood and sludge. The stone was just visible in the urethra and in that situation it is possible to 'massage' it out.

Thank you Highcroft!🙏

It’s so good when you find fab vets! I hope your girl is feeling better soon!

Thank you. Yes you are right, a fab vet is worth their weight in gold!

So pleased she’s all ok and it was removed! ❤️ Hope she heals well bless her!
My RB piggle Rupert (left on my avatar) actually had the same thing years ago, a stone stuck and I came home and found him the same! 0% urine output and an emergency op but thankfully he was ok too! Blooming frightening though, big hugs to you! x

That’s brilliant news. Glad it ended so well. ❤️ . Bet she’s feeling so much better. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

Aw wonderful news, so glad Tahini is better and that nasty stone was dealt with by those marvellous vets x

Well done for realising it was an emergency and getting her seen so quickly.
Healing vibes for a fast recovery and no more stones.

So glad you were able to get Tahini into the vets today and good for you picking up the emergency so promptly.
I’m happy to hear the good ending for all.
Hope Tahini recovers well now.

Wow, well done for spotting the problem and getting it sorted immediately. Hope Tahini is soon feeling better.

Thanks all. We really appreciate the support.

This evening, and she is slowly getting back to normal, still groggy but had a bite to eat and taken water.
She has definitely gone off humans!

She must have had a lot of the opioid. But at that time in the morning they had to do it that way. Iv'e never seen the effects of opioids before but it seems very different than coming round from a general anaesthetic, which is more immediate.

She will be very groggy for a while. But better out than in, as they say. Can you perhaps give he a top up feed before bedtime?

Good to know, thanks VickiA.
Yes, I'm offering her pepper and basil by hand. And I'll keep that going until bedtime.
She is very nervous of us. Never seen that before, like she doesn't know who we are.
But she's eating and peeing, that's the main thing.

Can you mush up some of her pellets in warm water and let her have some warm pellet mash?

Sonya has been wonderful with my boars, she is our favourite vet. I am so pleased she was able to help your girl. Sending Tahini healing vibes, hope she feels better soon.

So this morning she is refusing food. She seems very out of it still, not fluffed up in pain but very tense and in 'flight mode'. I'm wondering if she is in trauma? Or if the opioids were so strong that she is still (24hrs) coming down from them. She is chattering her teeth at her mate and generally not moving, staring in to space. I'm a bit concerned now.

I’d call the vets and just ask them if this is normal. Hope she settles down soon. ❤️

I am sorry to hear this.
Peanut had a very strong reaction to Buprecare. I had to syringe feed him for several days while he recovered and 'woke up'. I would phone the vets and see what they think.

Spoke to the vets who examined what was passed yesterday...apparently the lining of her bladder with stones embedded! This is good though apparently, but very very painful and traumatic so 2 days recovery and syringe feeding is necessary.

Ouch. Poor thing. Sounds awful. Hope she starts to improve soon.

Did they suggest Cystease or similar to line the bladder walls? I am guessing they did as Sonya always suggests it for my bladder problem boars.

This is reassuring to hear, thank you :)
I've started syringe feeding this morning, which she is taking without trouble.

Yes indeed, she is on Cystease.
Also Sonya is taking an analysis of what was passed to make sure about getting the correct anti-biotic. For the moment she is on Sulfatrim.

Oh dear, all has changed. We are loosing her. No explanation, she's just given up. Done all the right things. Very sad
