Sterilizing water bottles

Hot water, washing up liquid and a bottle brush is the way most people do it.

But if you are referring to actual sterilisation rather than just cleaning it is a bit of a different matter. I myself plop mine in the dishwasher, but this is only safe for glass bottles and hard plastic ones. I've found the ordinary clear plastic ones melt even in the top rack. Some people in my cavy club use baby bottle sterilisers. You can also pour in alcohol, leave it to sit for a day, then rinse out with water, detergent and bottle brush.
 
I use Milton sterilising fluid to do my bottles/bowls. I give them a thorough wash out in hot soapy water first, give the bottles a good scrub with a bottle brush, rinse them all off and then pop some sterilising fluid in the washing up bowl, add cold water and then the bottles/bowls. Leave to soak for a while and then rinse with clean water.
 
I just put hot water from the kettle in it and leave it to cool. Don't use washing up liquid as i don't trust myself to get it all out and don't want them getting a funny taste
 
I'm with cavies galore, and use sterilising fluid following the instructions and measurements/ratios correctly.

Works for me and not too much work.;)
 
the sterilising tablets work wonders for piggie bottles, tooth brushes and anything else you want to clean!
 
I use Milton too (or Boots own equivalent). If it's good enough to use for premature babies, then it's ok to use for piggies too (i'm a midwife)!
