mutton chops

Hiya:)

Bubbleberry has been back on antibiotics for 3 weeks now. I dont thinks shes feeling any better, shes still not herself :(
She has stopped going up and down the ramps:(

Shes had a runny nose and she keeps sneezing ( when she sneezes she wipes the snot of with her paw.......nice............!)

Shes been like this for ages now and has been on 2 courses of baytrill, including this one, and they dont seem to have made a difference :( She is 6 and a half years old..........could it be somthing to do with her age?

?/?/Heeeeeeeelp meeeeeeee!?/?/

aww poor little thing, does she live inside where its warm? if she doesnt it might be an idea to bring her in.

do you spray air freshner anyway near her cage or deodorant or anything as that will affect her, or is the hay dusty at all?

does she seem well, or does she seem really off with it too?

I love her name <3

The vet really needs to try her on Septrin anti biotics, as these usually work where Baytril fails.

I would also have her living inside, my vet told me it makes no difference but I did it with Woodstock anyway, as I wanted to keep an eye on him!

poor bubbleberry

really hoping bubbleberry gets better real soon, i would ask the vet to change antibiotics as i am guessing like people piggies can build an immune to the medication. and she has been on baytril for a while with no change.
is bubbleberry on a probiotic to protect her tummy? disgusting as it sounds perhaps next time she sneezes and there is snot perhaps put it in a clean jar and take to vet for testing.
as others have said i would bring her inside where she is with you and isn't so hot as outside.
sending hugs to you :)p:)p:)p and big xx>>>xx>>>xx>>> and i don't think age has anything to do with it. hoping no one is eating but what colour is the snot? how are her legs? is she moving around? good luck and keep us posted please.

Yeah.Shes inside.
There is one of the freshmatic things in her room, but she was like this before i put it in there..... and she only has dust free timothy hay. She is on vetbed.

Ill ask the vet about septrin as i think I'm gonna take her back to the vets anyway :)

Yeah. Her legs seem fine. She still moves ok, but i think she feels tired, cos she seems to be sleeping more..... Her snot is.....snot coloured.Normally its clear, but sometimes its whiteish, or has a greeny tinge to it.
She isnt on probiotic......do you think it would help? If so, what should i use?

I think I'm gonna turn off the air freshner and see if it helps.

probiotic

people in the UK use bio-lapis probiotic here in south oz we use protexin. you one gram of protexin to 1 litre of water and syringe feed the water about 2 hours after antibiotics are given. this protect piggies tummy from antibiotics which kill bad and good bacteria of a piggies tummy. which can cause piggy to go of food, and have softer poops. would definately ask vet about change of antibiotic and a probiotic. hugs to BB xoxoxoxoxoxo i only asked about her legs as you mentioned about the ramps i thought due to her age she might have a touch of athritis but guess i was wrong which is good.

Well shes deffo not off her food lmaorolleyes:))!

She may have a touch of arthritis, but she isnt suffering if she has. I think shes just feeling fatigued.

I should be able to get the bio-lapis at the vets shouldnt i? And then they will tell me how much to give her?

probiotic

when you see the vet ask him for a different antibiotic septrin and also ask for a probiotic for piggies and ask for doseage. i know it has to be given around 2 hours after antibiotics. i would definately ask the vet, good luck for BB and hope the vet helps her get better:)p:)p:)p and you are a good piggy mum as BB is 6 1/2 good age good on you :rose:rose:rose you coulod also try a vitamin supplement whick in the UK comes in tablet form. ask your vet!

awwwwwwwwww sweet little girl we hope all is fine real real soon xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
Know what you mean tho, you just feel for them and hope you can help as much as you can.
Good luck at the vets xoxo

hi mutton chops

My guinea pig of 5 months has the same problem, if you see my posts on it. I had my guinea put on antibiotics but it didnt help the sneezing and snotting at all.

Mine has also just gone onto profleece and dust free hay but has not made any difference. I am not sure if it could be an allergy to dust as when he goes outside, hes nose can sometimes improve through the day.

Scruffy does get like "bogeys"! round his nose, sorry people! and it sticks to around his nose and i have to gently pick it off after soaking it for a bit. I cant seem to get to the bottom of it, is it affecting bubbleberrys health?

bubbleberry and scruffy sneezing

hoping BB and scruffy get better soon. like i said in an earlier post has a sample of the snot been taken and tested?
do they sneeze all the time or is it just in the warmer weather? as it may be hayfever if in the warmer weather only.
sending hugs and healing vines and hoping a cause is found soon:rose:rose:rose
and for the piggies x>>x>>x>>

thanks daftscotslass and choloe.

No i havent taken Scruffys snot to thevet to be tested. that is something i didnt really think about doing! thank you for that suggestion.

I shall get reading at the link suggested! :)

My pig had a really snotty nose when she had URI.
I know loads of people don't suggest it, but we used a bit of vicks on the bedding and it stopped the sneezing within a hour.

where do you put the vicks then? on the bedding you say? hmm, i might have to try that.

I used to put vic on my piggie's nose (only a very small amount). It caused no irritation to her and it made her breathing much easier.

Thank you all

?/Which thread do you mean mooinie?

I tried olbas oil on a tissue hung up in their c&c.....is vicks better do you think, because they both have the same effect on humans?/

The snot hasnt been tested yet, but i will take a sample to the vets.

My mum did suggest it could be hayfever, but she hasnt suffered from it in the past, so i dont think thats it.......

Thank you daft scott lass ;) I will have a better read of that link when mummy mutton chops gets back. I'm not thick as such, its just long words go in one ear and out the other lol!

Thanks :)

I'm waiting for a reply about the baby sudafed. I'm sure ive read that it can be given to them, I just really want to make sure....

Just be careful if you decide to use Vicks (it's not something I would use). It can mask and ease the symptoms but doesn't cause what started them in the first place.

What do you mean ?/
Do you mean it wont cure it, just ease the symptoms, because i know that.

Or do you mean it could cause more problems?/

me too mutton chops, i never heard about sudafed for the guinea.

I would really like to get to the bottom of it really, but my vet is so expensive! i have one bill to pay off from last month for his antibiotics which didnt work and they werent really that useful to be honest so looking at the other vets in town. hopefully they will be better

Keep me updated on your progress and if anything helps as will be handy for me! i will do the same!:)

I wouldn't use Vicks because it smells strong enough to me so I don't think it would be pleasant for something as sensitive as a piggy.

Wouldn't use Sudafed either but then I believe that symptoms resembling URIs or other respiratory problems aren't something that should be dealt with using home remedies.

Baby sudafed was suggested to me on this forum for congestion in the nose - of course I don't wish to suggest anything that would cause any problems with your piggie - I'm just trying to help and mentioned info from previous experience. Is the vet you see knowledgable with piggies? Is it possible that it could be an allergy and the vet is treating for a uri if not very experienced with piggies?

More Questions!

Did you try the sudafed with your piggy? I want to make sure that its ok for them and find out how well it worked for the piggie....... Is there a chance it could make things worse? :Ayociexp113:

sick piggy

i would NOT try any home remedies, i would look for a vet who knows about piggies and see if you can get to the bottom of it.
with home remedies you can make the problem worse. sending hugs for your piggies and hoping you find the cause real soon. x>>x>>x>> i have Pm'd you and moonie. but please NO home remedies, if the vet can't treat them you could make the situation worse. try to sit down and make a list like hay, straw, shavings, bedding, different foods, and rule one out at a time and see if your piggies have an allergy. good luck!
