Hi everyone!
I was looking to buy hay from a local farmer and they said the majority of the hay was Timothy/Orchard, although Alfafa had been grown in that field previously and there may be a few stalks mixed in, is this still ok to give to my piggy?
Thanks!

I would avoid if there’s a chance alfalfa is mixed in. It may be a small amount but you can’t be sure.

Yes. If it is just a small amount and your piggies don't have a history of bladder issues it will be fine to give them.

I would think it would be fine (in small amount) but it is high in calcium. You could feed small amounts to a guinea pig pup, but once they get to 15 weeks or older it's best to lay back on Alfalfa hay. Guinea pigs up to 15 weeks need extra calcium -for bone growth- and can handle (is even good for them) to eat small amounts of Alfalfa hay.
As a generalisation, it's best to avoid Alfalfa hay altogether.

They don’t need alfalfa past weaning I’m afraid.

@MWpiggies I’m more cautious so go with everyone else 😄
