Should I Replace Plastic Hideys In Ferplast Cage?

It's in the garage at the moment so would need bringing up to the flat for a photo. I do think I have one somewhere though, either on here or in the depths of Photobucket, I will have a look.

Ah thanks, I can figure it out from yours and another post I have seen regarding the Skyline Maxi XXL. I just got this cage from Gumtree and tbh if I knew it was as flimsy and poorly made as it was I would have not bothered to pick it up. My other cages are Ferplast and Savic cages and boy do I realise why they cost more! This Skyline one is flimsy as crap - the base and the rubbish metal frame..I guess I will make do until I find a Ferplast 120 for cheap..but I think I will def make a mezzanine for them as I am planning to put 4 piggies in it eventually.

I have the Skyline cage so not a Ferplast and it has housed a few pigs over the years. Nigel arrived in it and his previous owner had made a shelf and ramp out of C and C grids and correx. It has lasted well, we just reinforced the front with an extra grid as Nigel used to lean right over. I think it basically has 2 grids as the base, which are attached with numerous cable ties, then a correx tray and then the grid at the front. The ramp is 2 bent grids I think and we put carpet tile on it.
That is what I'm planning on doing. 2 grids to form the base with loads of cable ties and have ordered correx. Will probably do that for the ramp too as it seems a good idea and would be fairly sturdy :)

I never liked those plastic shelf things thou I have never had one since my cages aren't ferplast. I have wooden houses and probably one issue would be that they are not exactly cleanable (like the plastic) and poo and pee can get stuck and ingrained in it. The positive is that wood would be nicer and more comfortable on the piggies feet thou would dry their paw pads out more.

My friend has the shelf and I dislike the food bowl as it's not very deep and food gets everywhere. I'd say if you get rid of the ramp and just have the shelf like you have then its better but then they can't hide really.

I'm just about to get a ferplast 120 myself in the next few days so will decide whether to keep the shelf or not.
The bowl that is built into the shelf is not actually bowl. You put the bowl you get with the cage over it and that bit that looks like a bowl keeps the actual bowl in place if that makes sense. haha

Today is the day the cage is getting 'refurbished' I am taking out the hideys and building a loft. I do feel kinda bad though as there are two plastic hideys and at bedtime the pigs sleep in one each. And they always have their same one. Hopefully they will adjust to the cage without them though :)

I have been excited all week to get this done and now my boyfriend is working til 5 so can't get started til he's here as he has tools etc. I will post pics when it's done :)

It's looks good! It's just like mine but the shelf is a bit higher!

Thanks :D I didn't actually want the loft that high but didn't really have an option as only had 2 bars running horizontal along the cage to tie wrap the shelf onto and the bottom bar would have been too low I thought.

Mines on the low bar, at the top of the plastic. They seem to like hiding under it and I can still see them! Your top bit is the same dept as my bottle bit! If that makes sense!

I wasn't sure about having a ramp, my first piggies wouldn't use the ramp on the two level cage we had! I think these would though!

My Rosie and Lola are the same colours as your two!

Aww that's a coincidence! I wasn't sure if they would use the ramp at all but within 20 minutes they were both up! they seem to like hiding up there so I'm pleased!
