Those greenhouse tube heaters are so useful aren't they! I have one alongside my indoor C&C if fostering in cold weather. Just keeps things cosy enough without costing a fortune too.

I have one of those as well as my oil filled radiator. ;)

I have an oil filled radiator too - which is positioned under the hutch.

Fitting the greenhouse radiators heaters inside the hutch has been a real boon. OH has fitted them at the top of the 1st tier so they are too high for the guinea pigs to touch in any way - or get to the electrics. Basically, they form underfloor heating for the top tier of the hutch and oil filled radiator heats the bottom layer.

I have several thermometers dotted around . When it was really cold, the temperature of the shed sometimes dropped as low at 10 degrees - but the temperature inside the hutch was usually 18 - 20 degrees.

I'm not too keen on the thermostat on my heaters so am going to look into whether a vivarium thermostat would be more efficient.

I originally had a corner shed (that is pictured in the hutch section) but this year I turfed everything out of my OH larger shed and put all the tools in that corner one - the construction of their new shed is good solid timber t&G and the extra space means I can store all their bits and bobs, extra hay, bags of fleece etc and still have room to set up an indoor run for wetter days and sit with them too.

My advice is go as big as you can now and you won't regret it - then you will spend all your time as I do thinking of ways to make it even more cosier! I have an extension lead I roll out with an RCD switch at the moment but hope to get electric to the shed for winter for lights and oil heater.

Its great as the Dandelion Pets at Home hutch I have (which is large but thinly built) is protected and not being weather beaten!

I still use fleece liners in the main part of the hutch but hay over puppy pads in the bedroom - though will be using snowflake below the hay in winter to ensure all pee is soaked up - its great stuff!

I originally had my boys free ranging but found it easier to put their hutch up higher (easier for me to interact with them and makes cleaning out a doddle, and also it means I can leave the shed door wide open on warmer days and not worry about cats getting in - though a wire door would solve that problem.

I find that by having a run within the shed to contain them means you can use the shed for other stuff too and not worry about the piggies getting lost, eating stuff, escaping, squashed! you could even have a two level hutch and a run that sits on the floor in front of the bottom level that you can let them use during the day. So many variations!

Can anyone find any free or cheap sheds in Farnham, West Surrey?

Try looking in the local classifieds or freecycle/preloved/gumtree/ebay etc.. Since you already have a garage have you considered how you could make it more habitable? You could easily create a similar sort of setup in a garage as in a shed.

They cost so much too and I don't really want to buy from breeders :/
