Shedding... how much is normal?

My one little girl sheds like crazy! Every time I pick her up I have hair ALL OVER ME!! I can very lightly pull at her fur and clumps come out. She doesn't have any bald spots which I imagine is a good sign.

I am not sure if this is normal since my other gal doesn't really shed at all!

Anyone out there with any Shedding Piggies? Any advice?

In my experience, there is huge variation in the amount of fur different guineas lose, and there seems to be no correlation with the fur type either.

Celyn has always been a shedder while his late companion, also a short haired pig, only lost a little.

So long as the coat and skin are in good condition and the fur is coming out fairly evenly, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Some guinea pigs can shed a lot; are yours outdoor piggies? They may just grow some thicker fur for the winter.

Guinea pigs do not moult, as such. However, some do lose hair more than others, usually if they move from outdoors to indoors, especially next to a radiator!
A good groom with a comb and/or a bath every now and again should control the problem.
Just make sure there are no "clumps" of debris around the hair roots, these can be indicative of a fungal problem.

Mine are indoor piggies.... her skin and coat condition look fine to me. Its not a new problem, she has had this little issue since I got her roughly 10 months ago.

Could it be stress related? There is never any loose hair in the cage, she mostly just goes shed crazy as soon as I pick her up!

"A good groom with a comb" Thats a good idea! Why didn't I think of that!mallethead I'll have to run out to the store and pick up a small animal brush. Do you think one of those ones with the tiny metal teeth for bunnies would be too harsh on her?
