Hello again!
Bugzy the 13 week boar is currently being treated for a fungal infection and I’ve just put cream on his sore but noticed that it has started to scab. Does this mean it’s healing? He only had dry skin at the start of treatment.
Also his eye by the ear that we are treating has become ever so slightly watery. I’m wondering if this is because some of his cream may have got into the eye.
Any advice would be greatly recieved.

picture is Saturday v the scab now.

What you are seeing is the process of ringworm. Keep applying the treatment as prescribed by the vet

We could only guess as to why his eye is watering given we can’t see you applying the cream and whether some went in.

Thank you for your reply. The vet has given me chlorexyderm but said to contact and let them know how he’s getting on. His ear has cleared up so I was hoping it wasn’t ringworm and was just a fungal infection like they suspected. It was over a video call though so I guess it would be harder for them to diagnose.

Chlorexyderm: Is that the shampoo?
Please be extremely careful around the eyes; they can be badly affected by fungal shampoos and creams.

It’s the spot on gel. I apply directly to his ear and belly with a glove and do try to avoid the eye but I wonder if he washed a bit into his eye, as despite my best efforts to monitor until it dries he does wash the areas I’ve applied the gel. His eye seems better this morning, almost cleared up and only slightly watery. It looks a bit like he hasn’t washed the normal build up out of his eye (I think it’s calcium build up but I’m still new to guinea pigs!).

Hi!

Please use a shampoo if at all possible to prevent the fungal coming up in other parts of the body as well and spreading, or discuss with your vet. Spot-on gels and creams are not very effective in preventing the spread to other parts of the body.

Please also have the eye checked for a possible non-ulcerating injury/perforation or something stuck under the lid in case it is not related to the fungal and you haven't use the spot on anywhere near the eye.

The spot on was the only thing I was given by the vet so I’m following their guidelines at the moment. Shampoo was not suggested at all.
I will however phone them tomorrow regarding his eye. It doesn’t look crusty or seem to be ‘leaking’ it’s just a bit more watery along the water line. Personally I thought that where he was washing his ear which has the gel in he might have moved that into his eye. But if you think it could be something else I’ll get it checked.
He’s still his cheeky self, eating, drinking etc.
