Sandy has weird poos

So I guess I jinxed it.
Earlier today I posted how their poos were better and all that and they still are, but Sandy's rare quiet whining (cause unknown) has increased in frequency and happened multiple times this evening. I checked her over and still can't see any obvious sources of pain. The vet opens at 830 tomorrow and I'll definitely call them, but I'm sure it will take a bit to get in. I think she whines when trying to go potty, but I'm not sure. Maybe her poos are a little dry due to stopping veg/fruit for a while? She's eating well, her weight is good, behavior seems normal other than the whining. [Insert sigh here]. If they could just be healthy for a little while. you know?

Got up in the middle of the night to check on Sandy because I was worried about her. I didn't hear any whining, but I was only up for about 15 minutes. I did see a small drop of blood in the cage. I can't tell if it came from Sandy or Penny as there's no dried blood on either of them, but I assume Sandy because she was whining before I went to bed. There's pee in the same spot as the drop of blood so perhaps she has crystals in her urine? Only guessing at this point. She has no known history of that issue, but her cagemate does. I'll have to see if the vet wants to do a urinalysis on one or both of them.

Fingers crossed you can get to the bottom of the problem soon. Good luck at the vets.

Called the vet and we won't be able to schedule an appointment for several weeks so Sandy will probably need to take the appointment that I had scheduled for Peanut (was scheduled for a wellness check on 1-25-22) because Sandy's issues are more pressing and Peanut appears to be healthy. Will follow up with the vet again on Monday, but for now that seems to be the best option.

We're getting an xray done to look for potential bladder stones. Also will do a urinalysis, but that will have to wait till I'm off from work on Saturday and can sit with her in a bin until she pees. Hopefully, we'll figure out why she's been squeaking. Will update as soon as I can.

Edit: she peed on their equipment
But at least they were able to get a sample.

So xray showed no bladder stones which is good. However, they discovered that she has bad arthritis in her knees. For that, the vet prescribed Metacam and recommended an increase of vitamin C to 200mg per day. The urinalysis showed some crystals which she may later recommend treating with potassium citrate, but more pressing was the increased white blood cell count which suggests a UTI. So she is prescribed Baytril for that. Historically, Sandy has had GI issues when given antibiotics so I'm going to start Bene-bac and supplement with CC once or twice a day in hopes of helping with GI issues.

I’m pleased you have hopefully found the cause of the squeaking. Hope the meds work quickly and she’s soon on the mend.

The metacam appears to be helping Sandy's arthritis so she will likely stay on it lifelong. Picking up more metacam at the vet today. So far, she has tolerated the baytril really well. Here's hoping that continues.

One question, the vet recommended increasing vitamin C to 200mg per day. It seems like a lot to me, but I'm trying to trust her advice. Sandy eats fresh veg and plenty of hay so I know she's getting some vitamin C from there, but I'm not sure how much. I've started supplementing with Oxbow vitamin C cookies but she won't even eat a full one so I crush up what she won't eat plus another whole cookie and that gets her an additional 50mg vitamin C via syringe with water. I'm guessing that I should supplement further as I doubt we're hitting 200mg. Can anyone recommend a piggy safe vitamin C tablet or liquid that I could syringe her? I hate to use tabs or liquid to syringe her, but I don't know how else to hit 200mg.
