Runny nose

Is she on cat / guinea pig metacam or dog metacam? If she’s on cat / guinea pig metacam, that’s a small dose
I’m not actually sure what metacam it is. They gave it in a small bottle, with a very small amount inside and put a lable with how we should give and that’s it.

Its not in its original box?
If you are concerned about piggy then you do need to go back to the vet

I’m not sure what metacam it is. But his fur has gone down again.

It’ll either be metacam for cats and guinea pigs or metacam for dogs - the difference is the strength of the medication so a lower dose of dog metacam is given than of the cat metacam. It should day on the box whether it is cat/guinea pig or dog. As I said 0.2ml of cat metacam once a day is really not very much medication at all.
While the pain meds are working, then he will feel better and once if wears off (usually after 12 hours which is why piggies are given pain meds twice a day, not once a day) he will experience pain again.
Do speak to the vet if he seems to be in pain (sitting hunched or puffed up can indicate pain)

It’s in a small bottle, and the vet filled it themsel

I will definitely ring them, I have noticed he is coming out more. He used to be in his hidey all day, he’s eating and interacting with me again. But when I come down in the morning, his fur looks puffy. After the metacam it all goes down, I’ll talk to the vet and see what she suggests. Thank you!

Hi! Just a question. I have been giving Teddy 8 days of medication now. Is he still contagious to other piggies? Thank you! :)

I don’t know how long it’s contagious, but if he’s been around other piggies then they’ve already been exposed.

Oh! Berty hasn’t had any symptoms, he’s fine :). Thank you.

Hi everyone. I have noticed Teddy has started sneezing and his nose is running worse than before. He is on his last day of baytril, he isn’t wheezing anymore and is wheeking and eating. But his nose is streaming. Do I ring the vet?

Yes ring the vet. It may be that the baytril course wasn’t long enough to completely cure the problem

When should the symptoms stop? He has been on baytril and metacam for 10 days and has one more syringe tonight and then there is none left.

:agr: It depends on many factors - sometimes it takes a longer course of baytril, sometimes baytril isn’t the right antibiotic and another one needs to be tried - only the vet is going to get to the bottom of it

Thank you for getting back to me! I’ll contact them.

Hi everyone. I hope you’re doing well.
Teddy had another vet visit, he got metacam again, and sulfatrim. The vet said if it doesn’t clear up over 10 days, we’ll have to look in hayfever and allergies. Thank you :)

I’ve used the vit C biscuits from Oxbow and they were very successful

I’ve been on the hunt for vitamin c but I find most pet shops have drops and I don’t really trust them.

I bought my oxbow biscuits from Animed - it’s difficult to judge how much vit c is taken if the drops are used in water. My boys don’t drink much. With a biscuit you can directly administer it. Good luck
It’s animed direct

I give Teddy his medicine in the morning so he perks up a bit. Yesterday he was sat hunched in the corner, I don’t know if it was because he was poorly or because he had a massive fight with his brother and had to be seperated. He normally runs away when I come, but he is letting me stroke him multiple times (he is closing his eyes while me doing so). He is eating and has gained weight in the past 2 weeks. He has 0.2ml of Sulfatrim and 0.25ml of metacam once a day. He doesn’t seem as active as he used to be. I thought this uri would pass but it has been around 2 weeks now that he has been on medicines. Is there anything I can do?

What metacam is it - if it is cat metacam then the dose he is being given is almost ineffective. They can have much more than that and it should be given twice a day as piggies process their pain meds quickly. It would be a good idea to speak to your vet again if he isn’t improving

It is a cat one. I am trying to find a new vet, as they overcharged us for a bunch of medication we aren’t going to use. We asked for a print out of his documents and they even wrote down that his sex was a female. I have seen one on the vet locator near me.

Hi!
I made this threada while ago. Teddy hasn’t had one since, but today when I put him on the grass he sneezed and he started to have a runny nose again. I haven’t given him grass since apart from today. Is he allergic? I’ve been to the vets twice and he’s been treated and is a lot better. He did have a runny nose after for a while but was perfectly healthy. When we went back to the Vet the second time, she said he was perfectly fine but gave him sulfatrim anyway. She said we’d look into allergies, but I’m pretty sure it’s grass.

When I put Teddy away for the night, he didn’t have a runny nose. Not a drop in sight, its strange!
