I hope it’s okay to post about my chicken here.

This morning I found our lovely little Roxy passed away in the nest box.
Yesterday I noticed she seemed a bit slow, and wasn’t her usual self. She often gets a limp so wondered if that was flaring up again, or perhaps she was starting to get broody as she sometimes does. So of course I was just going to keep an eye on her over the next day or two before taking her to the vet. But sadly she took herself to bed last night and never woke up.
I bought Roxy home 3 years ago from a family who didn’t want her anymore. I needed a friend for my Pekin, Rosie. Rosie’s little sister Sooty had issues moving, neurological problems and I knew she’d have to go to chicken heaven some time soon, leaving Rosie sad and alone as she wasn’t good friends with the bigger chickens at the time.
I introduced Roxy while Sooty was still alive so Rosie could get use to her. It can be dangerous introducing a new chicken to a disabled one, they don’t like weakness and it could have easily ended in disaster. But Roxy was nothing but kind to Sooty, she wasn’t mean to her at all. With Rosie watching in nervously she saw the kindness in Roxy and the three of them quickly became friends.
A few weeks later we had to say goodbye to Sooty, which was really tough on Rosie.
But Roxy and Rosie have been irrespirable even since, two best friends in a flock of 10 who have always been by each others side for the past 3 years.
Roxy was never interested in drama or chicken politics, she was chilled out and sweet natured.
Both Rosie and I are heartbroken that she’s died, I certainly wasn’t expecting it at all. Karen, a much larger chicken seems to be hanging around with Rosie today, looking after her which is sweet.
Roxy was somewhere around 7 years old, she had the best hairdo and I throughly enjoyed having her around. I shouldn’t have favourites..But Roxy and Rosie are special.
Say hello to Sooty for us, Roxy. We love you and miss you already. I'm so sorry you’re gone. Sleep well Roxy Doxy 🌈
