Hi, my guinea pig is being treated with antibiotics from the vet, but I’m worried about her bloody scab. She can’t stop scratching and biting it. She has one on her nose and behind her ear and two under both of her legs. Sadly, the doctor didn’t give us any anti fungal medication, but I bought some Athleits foot cream at Walgreens and it doesn’t seem to help..:( any suggestions?:(04078544-D3DC-4467-BDC8-BB0E43F3746A.webp614DDE87-A88A-417B-AA61-14ECBE3C7894.webp40C85154-2B0E-48D8-B6AB-91A152ECCFF7.webp

Hi! Poor girl!

She needs anti-fungal baths every three days; athlete's cream is not enough. I assume that you are in the US and not in the UK? Please be careful to only fill the basin, which you best place on a towel on the shower or bathtub floor only to about 2 inches with baby warm water. Use only the foam or a cotton bud around sensitive area like mouth/nose, eyes and ears. Follw the instruction on the product.
Products available in the US: Guinea Lynx :: Fungus

Please be aware that ringworm is the most transmittable issue between all mammals, which includes humans and other pet species. Good hygiene is paramount. Please invest in a good vet strength disinfectant to get on top of the many invisible ringworm spores and prevent re-infection. This is as important as your fungal care.
The tips in our ringworm hygiene guide had been learned the hard way, that is why they really work and allow you to deal with ringworm once and for all! The guide also contains pictures of how a ringworm infection is running its due course.
Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

If your girl has been diagnosed with ringworm by a vet within 2-3 of sale, you can reclaim the vet cost from the pet shop by presenting the vet bill with your sales receipt. If necessary, ask for the store manager and don't let yourself be fobbed off. It comes under the heading of customer protection when sold damaged ware as exposure and infection must have happened at the shop.

Can you get your parents to take her to another vet? US guinea Pig vet list here at Guinea Lynx Guinea Lynx :: GL's Vet List

If things doesn’t still clear up we might go to another vet. Her antibiotics is ketoconazole 0.5ml per day. This is her second day of the antibiotics no signs of changes I’m guessing because it’s just new hopefully it absorb soon in her system..

ketoconazole is an antifungal not an antibiotic @Wiebke

Ketoconazole is a systemic fungicide and not an antibiotic, so she is getting the treatment she needs from your vet! Treating ringworm orally is the most effective and least stressful way. Oral ketoconazole is a new way of treating, so you may not have come across it in your online research yet. We have got several years of experience in the UK with a similar product (itrafungol); it is really a boon! You will still give your piggy at least one bath at the end of the course to make sure that she is not carrying any ringworm spores in her coat that could cause a re-infection. You also need to bathe any companion to prevent her from coming down with it.
See the Guinea Lynx link in my previous post re. active ingredients.

Glad to know that! Thank you for your advice! It’s prettty frustrating and I’m trying to really have patience I just want to see her happy again with no skin disease.:(
I will post more pictures of her for more updates soon!

Please read our hygiene guide from my first post - it is as important as the fungal treatment.

All the best! Ringworm has to run its course, but you should be able to stop it within 1-2 weeks with the ketonazole.

Hi everyone,
It’s peaches 6th day of treatment (ringworm) and she’s really doing well thanks for everyone’s advice. Really appreciate you guys!❤️

Here’s a picture! ❤️ (While everything is doing great, I’m pretty worried because she still scratches herself like crazy should I be worried about that or just keep doing the treatment? And will her hair grow back?) thank you!❤️

Hi! The hair will grow back - have a look at the pictures in our ringworm guide. ;)

Keep doing the treatment. If the itching persists, you may need to consider mites treatment.
