Reusing old guinea pig stuff

My two guinea pigs passed away this year, one in January and one in June.

In a few weeks I am bringing two new piggies home and I was wondering if it is ok to reuse all the stuff from before and if there is anything I shouldn’t reuse.

I’ve washed all the bowls and plastic stuff very thoroughly but I’m not sure about the fleece bed and tube as I can’t seem to get all the hairs and stains off.

They are going to be in the hutch my other piggies lived in so how well do I have to clean it?

Sorry you lost your piggies, very exciting to be having more. I don't know the answer to your question, except I wash the cage liners and fleece beds etc at 60 degrees and that gets all stains out for me.

Sorry for your losses but how exciting that you're getting new piggies Just make sure your scrub the hutch really well. I've always used previous piggies things with new piggies and never had any problems. As @Black piggies says, wash the fleeces at 60 degrees and they should be good to go

So sorry for your losses but I’m delighted to hear you are expecting new arrivals soon.
I too, have used old piggy stuff.
As long as everything is well cleaned and washed it will be fine.
There is also a good time lag between use.

I hope you will post lots of pictures when the newbies arrive.

So sorry you lost your little piggies. I thinks it’s rather nice new piggies using your previous piggies things like tunnels and bedding. It’s strangely comforting! A good brush and wash of fleeces is fine, you can buy laundry disinfectant to use in your wash if you are concerned.
F10 vet grade disinfectant is the best for spring cleaning your hutch x

Welcome to your new little ones. I am glad you've got to a time to bring more into your life after the loss.

I've been reusing the same bedding and equiptment over several generations of pigs, except where they're obviously damaged or could be hazardous. I just wash them hot, multiple times if needed. Low tumble dry can get some hairs out, otherwise I might leave it dry blowing in the wind on a sunny day.

I wouldn't reuse anything cardboard and even wooden things I feel can soak up yucky stuff and so don't reuse too often. I'm not sure if anyone here has a particularly good method to cleaning wood. I just found the switch to plastic easier, except for cute wooden houses which usually last the lifespan of the pig anyway.

But I still have a heap of stuff from 10 years ago as momentos.
