Aw I hope Duke continues to improve, its a labour of love syringe feeding isn't it! Give him a kiss from us!

PS your experience with the vet is shocking - our vets never are fab, they didn't ask us to settle up after hospitalising Roly and Huxley, we paid them this week when we took Tiger in, they give us fleeces and towels etc to take home and don't even charge us for a consultation if there is nothing wrong!

send to oz

can you send your vet to oz please?/ they sound wonderful! really hoping duke continues to improve and sending hugs to duke, archie, you and your mum :)p:)p:)p and many x>>x>>x>>

Wow, this vet should be ashamed of himself. How could he not take responsibiltiy? He shouldn't be treating animals. I'm so sorry about Duke. I do hope he gets better. Ricky and myself are thinking of you....x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>

Thanks, I dont think i will be using these vets again there is another vets which is a bus ride away where my mum goes with her torts she doesnt trust anyone at the vets in our town either! I just wasnt sure if a long journey on a bus would freak him out because he was quite ill/huddled up in his cage i wanted someone to see him quickly, I dont drive so it makes it harder to get them there quickly.

He is ok this morning, he is still looking really depressed though he's sat in his cage huddled up most of the day.. he had his fourth dose of antibiotics this morning, he had bio-lapis throughout the day yday someone mentioned not giving it within 2 hours of antibiotics so he will be on that again from 11am onwards today too, his eyes do look a tad better he has some antibiotic eye cream x2 daily too.

He is still eating alright, dont think he's eating much dry food as its not going down as fast as it usually does and i dont think archie eats much dry he eats lots of hay, but Duke is eating fresh food ive been giving them a good variety so he gets plenty of vits. I've seen him eating hay here and there and he's drinking from the water bottle but not as much as he usually drinks.

Hopefully he will perk up a bit soon, when i go near the cage with food or bio-lapis he jumps up at the bars but the rest of the time just sits there..

Oh I am sorry. Sorry I can't offer much advice as I'm new to having guineas but I remember when my rabbit was ill, its awful.

I hope he makes a full recovery (((hugs)))

good on you duke

am so glad duke is perking up alittle, maybe a cuddle with mum whilst watch TV would be a good idea for him.
i can remember once a friend and i went on a bus with a budgie in a cage and the driver threatened to kick us off :{:{:{
so maybe as the bus driver first, sending hugs to you, duke, archie and your mum :rose:rose:rose you're both doing a great job!x>>x>>

Wow, they do sound excellent Katie. We had to fork out when we lost little Scampy there and then, bawling our eyes out with our little boy in a box.

Glynis, I hope Duke improves, you've both been through so much, it must seem never ending for you x

that is terrible about the vet, I think its appauling that they didnt even give you the medication for the sake of 3 pounds. couldnt your vets bill you later, thats what mine do if cannot pay then and there?

Hope Duke gets better soon, give him lots of kisses and cuddles x>>

Oh love we're both sending huge healing wheeeeeeeeeeks and loves for the beautiful boy xoxoxoxo
We will have our paws crossed that Dukey is back to his normal self really quickly, huge hugs and loves for you too, you've obviously been so stressed out and the fact that the vets have been rather uncaring would not have helped either 8...8...
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) and piggie kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

julie like me you thought it was glynis's duke but it is spudnik's duke, the dukes are multiplying, hoping he gets well.x>>x>>x>>

Oh blimey, I'm really sorry Spudnik! I'm still getting used to locating who started the thread, didn't realise it wasn't Glynis, I'm such a moron!

My message is still the same though - I really hope he improves :)

Going to hide under a stone now

*must read threads properly before posting...* :red

Thanks Mary x

hope he's feeling a bit better xx>>>

I think he is feeling better, ive managed to do his eye drops for the past few days no problem but he has decided to now bite me every time i go near him with the eye drops! lol so i had to enlist the help of my mum to hold him so i could get them in! he is also putting up great fuss when i attempt the syringe with antibiotics in too lol

He is still eating fine, and drinking etc so hopefully once the course of antibiotics has finished he will be back to being a happy healthy pig :)

Hello, just after a bit more advice!

He still isn't right, he finishes his antibiotics on tuesday.. although he is eating and drinking and his eyes are clearing up he still seems really down, and looks ill.. you know when they just sit huddled up looking unwell he's like that, he hasnt gone any worse but he doesnt appear to be getting any better either apart from eyes which are a bit better, he's been having antibiotics x2 daily, his antibiotic eye cream x2 daily and bio-lapis throughout the day.. anyone know why he's still not right? I'm really not wanting to go to the vets again after the mistake they made last time, but if he is still looking like this I'm going to have to, i dont want my lil guy in pain or feeling unwell.

he seems ok out of his cage, i put him on my carpet and had him running around after treats from my hand he's taking an interest in things out of his cage like that, but in his cage he is just looking so down and sad..

think hes got used to you making a fuss of him and he doesnt want it to end lol

is duke depressed?

has anything changed that makes him unhappy to be in the cage? like a lost cage mate or a new cage? or has the cage been moved?
has he a friend? is he feeling lonely?
sounds like a case of depression to me but not really sure, hoping you find the cause of his depression or him feeling blue, maybe get him a teddy to cuddle up too.
is he eating, drinking and doing the waste products?
sending hugs and healing vibes your way:)p:)p:)p come on duke get better and fit as a fiddle for your mummyxx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Hiya, nothing has changed.. he has lived with Archie in the same cage for 11 months, I havent moved the cage either. Duke's brother died in september last year, so I got Archie as a friend for Duke, and they got on well.. they get on now too. He is eating, and drinking he has been impacted the past week so ive been cleaning his bum every other day/or when he needs it doing.

Hi love well his mate Duke from OZ sends his little buddy Duke in UK heaps and heaps of more healing wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks

do you think he's got an upset tum or something else?

have you some probiotics they can't hurt they would settle his tum ! xoxo

ahhhhhh and the wonder thing metatone you could start him on that too, to boost him up xoxo

Because he's been impacted i reckon he prob feels a bit lowly could you try wiping him out once a day ? not pleasant i know but i might help a bit...

Loves, wheeeeeeeeeks and special piggie kisses for our friend Duke and you too cause we both know how stressful this all is xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Hiya, yeah he is already having pro-biotics, and I'm cleaning him when he needs his bum doing i check him daily, and get my mum to help me! not a nice job and very stinky lol think we need to invest in nose pegs!

I think he may be going the same way that shakey and meeka did tbh.. he seems like they did, and he has lost quite a lot of weight this week he was 650g at the vets last tuesday and i weighed him today and he's 608g he keeps doing weird little moves with his front legs like he isn't controlling them.. one leg keeps sticking out in front of him and sort of patting the floor a few times then he brings it back into his body and they lies down leaning to one side, its really odd.

i know how the other two went so i am prepared incase it happens, and at least i know what to expect.. doesnt make it any less upsetting though.

thanks for all your help though!

duke

oh don't give up on him yet, perhaps you could give him some sweetcorn or oats(porridge/oatmeal) as these are good for putting on weight for a piggy. as for impaction i have had no experience with this as i stick to girls, thankfully by what i have been told the smell is like. our late dogs 1 male and 1 female use to have their anal glands cleaned regularly and that would knock you for a sick.:)>>>:)>>>:)>>>
do you think he may have had a stroke? perhaps he is lacking in calcium for his leg to behaving the way it is?
sending you big hugs to you and duke, were duke, meeka and shakey related? could be genetic? please keep us posted. you can do it duke xx>>>xx>>>xx>>> and for you and mum :rose:rose

Thanks, yeah Duke, Shakey and Meeka are all of Dixie's babies from the same litter, Dixie is only tiny herself she only weighs 620g but she has always been a small pig, she is healthy so far ive never had to take her to the vets for anything I'm amazed how she is so small considering she eats so much! lol Dixie was pregnant with them at an early age, i got her at about 2-3 months old and 2 weeks after i got her i noticed she was pregnant, she was in a cage with her brothers where i got her from, they were quite small at birth but she also had a bigger pup which was still born in the same litter.. so its possible that they have all been ill due to being inbred Shakey died when he was 9 months old, and Meeka died when she was 1yr 3 months old. Duke is 1yr 8 months old now.

He is still eating and drinking fine, and when i get him out for a run in my bedroom he seems to perk up.. I'll just have to see how he goes and hope he does start to pick up.
