I've recently been told that to help stop boys scuffling over dominance to put Vicks on the private bits.! Has this worked for anyone else?

Ive never heard of it but I cant imagine its that pleasent for the animal either ... ive used original source shower gel (same ingredients but milder) on my bits and its horrid I cant imagine what full strength vicks would do!

:))

But no, I've not heard of this and I can't imagine it would help or be very comfortable for the pig. Bathing them with the same shampoo can help.

probably isn't the best of ideas,
however it did make me laugh at the thought of it
maybe there poops would smell nicer too ?

I think this would be potentially very dangerous and uncomfortable for your boars. Have you ever got Vicks in your eyes? Let alone on your privates. Ouch.

If you are having trouble then there are lots of threads and help on boar behaviour in the Behaviour section :) or make a new post saying what the problem is and we'll try to help. But Vicks - no.

My OH used my mint original source when he stayed.

He came out with tears in his eyes :(|)

The active ingredients and the carrier oils themselves are irritating to mucus membranes and skin if applied topically and are also poisonous if ingested.
Vicks is designed to be a volatile inhalant. Please do not apply it topically to any part of your guinea pig.

Actually after a bit of thought Vicks has eucalyptus in so is poisonous to piggies as far as I am aware ... and if there bits were hurting I'm pretty sure they would lick it off!

Giving the boars a shampoo using piggy shampoo can help as it makes them smell the same :-)

I was advised by people on another forum that dabbing Vicks on the hair above their noses was an aid to bonding boars.....this was when I adopted the two brothers which then started fighting horribly and had to be split.

It never did them any harm but I'm really annoyed now if it could have harmed either of them mallethead

The piggies eyes would water!8...

It would be sore I expect on their bits...

Well i thought it was a bit bizzare.! @)
But i Thought i better check incase it was normal. As Ive never heard of it before I havent done it and dont intend to, Their getting better. They'll just sort it out between themselves.

I think your meant to put it just above their grease gland so they both smell the same. However I'd still be worried about where it might end up lol :{
I personally think a bonding bath works better :)
