Hello,

My guinea pig had an operation on a abscess in his neck on Wednesday. I have been syringe feeding him day and night since. His appetite for eating himself is still quite poor and there is no way I could stop or lessen the syringe feeding yet. I'm just wondering if this is normal? I will ring the vets tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has experience similar? He also had his teeth trimmed at the same time as his top ones had got a bit long following broken lower teeth. Many thanks

It can be normal for them to be off their food following surgery, but the quicker they eat for themselves the better.
Is he on pain relief?

Thanks for replying. He's on 0.9ml metacam once a day and 0.3ml baytril twice daily.

i assume it’s cat metacam?
Guinea pigs can actually be given pain meds twice a day as they metabolise pain meds quickly so could be in pain if only being given it once a day. Speak to your vet about that though as we aren’t vets so can’t comment on dosages etc

Yes it's cat metacam. I will query the dose tomorrow. Thank you for your help.
