I've only ever had smooth coated piggies before, but my little Bumblebee is strangely soft, but coarse all at once, i agree there's something rather enticing about a fuzzy coated piggy xx

I love how dense their coats are. Great to bury your fingers in. My two are really chunky as well so they're great to cuddle up to

Drommy is my Rex cross aby (only 2 slight rosettes on her bum, barely noticeable). I have few photos of her as she’s very camera shy!



And Iggy is a teddy but I suspected he’s crossed with a Rex somewhere down the line as he has curlier whiskers than a full teddy! Not all the time though, sometimes they’re straight sometimes they’re a bit abstract



I love all my pigs and their different breeds, but it’s fascinating to see the differences in personalities!

Sadly, i no longer have any rex since yesterday. The top picture shows stan and benson who were brothers. We lost stan in 2016 and benson just yesterday.

Then my new teddy girls aged 4 months. Mabel top and belle below.

How do rex and teddy compare for friendliness to humans?

Jemimah is a very friendly piggy but I haven’t noticed her being any more so than the others.
I just think they’re cuter - I love the soft fuzziness

My old rex Bumble was very laid back around me. Brillo who is probably a rex (may be cross) loves to see what we are doing and always has his nose poking out of the cage. He is a dream to handle and is not at all afraid.

My first 2 Rex girls in 2007 were the most laid back guinea pigs I’d ever known. Super friendly and loved lap time.
However Mary, well she hates lap time and being handled! When I pick her up she cow kicks me! And squeaks in annoyance. During lap time she will not sit still and will nip me if I keep put my arm in the way to stop her wandering off! She’s a funny character and I love her for it I don’t insist on her being handled, I only handle her every few days for a check over, she’s much happier everyday scooting into her tunnel to be lifted out for floor/grass time.

Drom, my rex, doesn't particularly like being handled. She’d much rather be doing her own thing. She’ll accept a health check and weigh but she’s not a fan of cuddles. She loves to give kisses though, with the occasional “nip kiss” to remind you she’s a ticking time bomb!

She’s a very sweet girl though and the most affectionate to other pigs, she likes to groom them, much to their annoyance most of the time She’d like nothing more than to cuddle up with Bella but Bella is having none of it! She allows her close but no snuggles. I do feel sorry for her sometimes!

Iggy, my teddy, would put up with anything. He enjoys a cuddle with us humans but isn’t terribly affectionate with pigs. He’s VERY talkative (never shuts up in fact, I can hear him chatting away like he has Tourette’s as he’s eating hay!) and he’s always got plenty to say when he’s having a cuddle. Unlike the other pigs he’s quite content to poo on you or eat his poo and then lick your face... but I think that’s likely more because he’s a boy than a teddy

I have five Rex piggies but some of these pics are a bit old. I still have all 8 piggies but three of them are shorthaired

I believe I have a rex and a teddy however sometimes it can be difficult to tell, I imagine they’re a mix of some kind










Either way they’re both fuzzy monsters!

This was Muffin, our beloved boar. He was my first teddy ever and such a sweet boy. All the girls loved him.

This was Nicky. He was a rescue piggy and I don't know if he was a Rex, Teddy or a Rex or Teddy mix, but he was one of a kind.

They were my Teddy gang. Billie and Tessy loved Muffin very much.

This sweety was Toffee. She wasn't a Rex or Teddy, but she looked like one. Her mummy was a smooth coated piggy and her daddy was a Lunkarya.
Her coat was much softer, but sometimes I have to look twice at a pigture to be sure if it was Nicky or Toffee.
