Hello! I noticed today that poor Winston has some slight boogers on and around his nose. Since it is a holiday in the US, I’ll have to call tomorrow to make him a vet appointment. He hasn’t been showing any other signs of illness. His appetite is still amazing, he’s socializing and is quite the little explorer. If he does have a URI, do y’all think it’s severe? I want to be as careful as possible and as informed.

You would always want to treat nasal discharge and potential URIs seriously and see a vet. Getting on top of an illness quickly Is important but in the early stages of an illness, sometimes the symptoms are unclear and inconsistent. All you can do at this stage is keep a close eye on him, weigh him regularly to ensure he continues to eat well and make an appointment with your vet for a check up

Thank you! He’s still popcorning around and, most importantly for my nerves, does not appear to have labored breathing! I’m going to call tomorrow to make an appointment. I’ve been meaning to get him a check up just for good parenting, but with COVID things got screwy. This just forces my hand. Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

No, nothing else you can do really other than keeping an eye on him and keeping a check of his weight.
There’s that time between noticing something off (we know our piggies so can spot something not right quickly!) and it actually being diagnosable by a vet!
Let us know how you get on
