Poorly Blodwen with stubborn URI but a good vet trip!

I’m sorry she seems to be getting worse. Hopefully the sulfatrim will kick in soon. 🤗

i hope blod gets better soon.i wondered if you or your vet has thought about nebulising,i have found in previous piggies who have upper and lower respiratory infections,to respond to nebulisers well, using F10 Antiseptic solution, and sometimes antibiotics nebulised.

Thanks, its not something we've discussed yet but definitely something to discuss with the vet next Wednesday at our next follow up appointment!

Blod is still very grunty but she sprinted several cage laps when piggy daddy went to catch her for her morning medicines, then all her friends piled on top of her (4 piggies crammed in 1 hidey house!) to stop her being taken out of the cage, so I think she's doing ok! This morning she had a strawberry top after her medicines, I dont think she's had strawberry before and she rather liked it :)

Blodwen has just set off with piggy daddy for a vet check up! She's had 0.6mls of sulfatrim antibiotic and a bit of bisolvon decongestant twice a day for 12 days now, it took 4 or 5 days to see any improvement and the first day or two she seemed to be getting worse, but she seems fully recovered so we stopped the bisolvon yesterday so the vet can do a proper check of her breathing without the decongestant masking and lingering symptoms!
We've been calling her "little honks" for ages because of her honky breathing, but today piggy daddy called her "the artist formally known as little honks" because hopefully her breathing is finally clear...
Then we just need to make sure she stays well for a month, then discuss booking her in for her dental during half term week! The vet says her back teeth are a bit long but as she is still eating fine I dont want to rush into anything, and I want the head vet Dr Claire Bertram to do the dental work because she did a lovely job on Blod's teeth last time, 6 molars with spurs and a misaligned jaw all fixed in one surgery and Blod was eating normally 3 days later!

Blodwen is honk free with completely clear breathing, but the vet suggests we keep up the sulfatrim for another 10 days just to make sure that very persistent URI stays gone this time.
And she suggests we review the teethies in December, possibly scheduling dental surgery over our Christmas holidays- Blod's back teeth are a little long and are growing a bit longer on one side than the other, but the wear pattern on the teeth is good and there are no sharp edges or spurs, and the vet and myself both agree that perhaps Blod has been eating a bit less coarse timothy hay the past couple of months while she's had her URI, so hopefully now that issue is resolved she can get back to some serious hay munching and start grinding her teeth down again. Good work there Blodwen, and also good work Sarah Molloy who is the vet who has been treating Blod's URI and doing her xrays and checking her teethies- another great vet from vets4pets Penny Lane Liverpool who really seems to know a lot about piggies!
