Hello:) my piggies have just learnt how to use the ramp in their cage (for the first time in a month)and I carelessly left a plastic bag near the cage (only reachable via the ramp) so I never saw this as an issue. But today I've noticed a large hole in the bag where it's been nibbled and was wondering if this is a big problem for guinea pigs? I'm not sure if it's a case of just keeping a close eye on them or if a trip to the vets is needed?

Keep an eye on them for 24 hours to check if they are pooing ok.
They do tend to nibble whatever they can reach - when I’m cleaning out, one of mine makes a beeline for the plastic carrier bag so that she can eat it! As long as they have pood as usual they should be fine but any concerns then contact your Vet.

Thank you!

Hi, mine (not sure who was responsible) got hold of a black bin bag a few weeks ago and had a good go at it before I spotted it! Que total internal panic. But they’re fine ! Their little bodies do seem quite adept and coping with all the crap they eat that they’re not supposed to!

Just keep an eye on them but try not to worry too much

They're so cheeky! That's brill, thank you:)

A couple of mine have done the same thing when the kids left the hay bag too close to the bars. Just make sure that the piggie is pooping normally for the next day or so. The real risk is that they cannot digest the plastic and could develop an intestinal blockage, which is why you want to make sure that things are still moving through the digestive system normally. That said, when my pigs did this none of them had any ill effects.
