Piggy poo...yes just piggy poo!

I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but I was wondering about piggy poo.

What is a healthy colour? What does it mean if it's a light brown? Or if its two toned? Or if it's pitted? What does it mean if it's crumbly? And if they are smaller than average it can mean the piggy isn't eating enough right? Or are there other reasons for this too?

Sorry for all the questions, I was just curious. I want to be educated and therefore prepared for any signs of illness in my piggies.

for the most part, what goes in will come out.

If your pigs eat a nice supply of hay and tuck into the dry food in their bowls the poos will be a lighter shade of brown and quite dry, possibly crumbly as there is a lot of dry fiber going through their system. If they have grazed for a great proportion of the day the poos will be darker and a little wetter as there is more water content going through.

If you feed them a veg or fruit that has a high colour such as red pepper or beetroot, the poos will come out a light shade of pink or red, I even found an orange poo from an orange pepper fed to them.

If the poos are not torpedo shaped but they are eating well, it could be the gut had trouble during the forming process for one reason or another, if its a persisitant occurrance it could possibly indicate a problem with the diet or the digestive process.

Piggies do recycle their poops, if they have not quite digested the nutrients the first time round, eating a poop again can help to absorb the nutrient that wasnt digested.
 
I'm not sure if I can explain this very well but today Saff did several poops with a dent/groove running down them. I've seen them occassionally before but I was wondering if anyone knows if this indicates anything significant? Should I be concerned?

Does anyone have any ideas? It was literally these 5 and now her poops are back to normal?
 
Dont know why but Putts poo's often have this groove in it. She's been like this for 5 years and it has never bothered her.
 
my Finlay often has tear drop poops, yet he and Frankkie have the same diet, don't get it@) and his are often soft and suqidgy when Frankkie's are hard and dry... just don't get it@)

I knew I had seen something about different poops somewhere! Thank very much!

I get so paranoid about all the little things with them! Are they eating enough? Are they eating too much? Are they getting all the nutrients they need? Are they sleeping too much? Are they getting enough exercise? Ohhhh being a piggy mummy should be my full time job!
