We have a doorstop with a ring of rubber round it to stop the door banging into it, and one of our piggies has eaten a bit of it during floor time (I thought he was chewing the door...). He's had a piece comparable to a pellet of poo, I suspect he didn't swallow it whole but chewed it first, but I can't be 100%

He seems perky enough, what should we be watching for (or should we be rushing to the vets?). How long will it take to come out the other end and I'll make sure he is still pooing then.

Added a pic in case it helps

Keep an eye on him. Look out for signs of pain, lack of poop, abdomen hard and swollen. He's obviously got it down, so there's no choking hazard. Piggies can't vomit, so it will have to go all the way through. I'm not sure how long it takes, but definitely by the morning I would think, based on the times I've fed my lot beetroot. Any sign of trouble and take him to the vets. Let us know how he's doing tomorrow.

As the previous poster said, just keep an eye on him for anything unusual over the next couple of days. I suspect he will do just fine... I was once in a panic because my kids left the hay bag too close to the cage and one of my pigs managed to eat a significant portion of the plastic bag getting to the hay, but she was just fine. Hope this helps!

Hi both

Thanks for the help, I've kept checking on him and saw no change in behavior. When I got home today I separated him down one end of the tank, picked out all the pellets and left him for an hour (with food and water of course), when I went back a little later there were pellets, so he is clearly pooping. He's eaten his salad and seems happy enough.

I'll keep monitoring, but I think he's fine.

tut tut naughty boy! Some piggies will really eat anything won't they? One (or maybe all four) of mine once ate a chunk of the rubber off the end of the dustpan cos I left it too close to their cage. Luckily there were no health problems as a result.
