does anyone know if guinea pigs can have piel de sapo melon?

i went to asda and picked up what i thought was a honeydew melon. (it was in the honeydew melon basket and even had the sticker on!) and turns out it's a piel de sapo melon, whatever that is! never heard of them before!

so now i have this expensive melon and don't know whether they can have it!

thanks. :)

Piel the sapo is a common Spanish melon, grown in La Mancha or Murcia region....very tasty whitish flesh. It's rarer in supermarkets in Britain though!
You can eat it in a Melon salad or wrapped in Proscioutto ham. The salty ham is a perfect companion to the sweet flesh of the melon.

Yes, it's safe to give to piggies, I wouldn't give as much peel though because it is quite tough and leathery (like toad skin!)

Hope that helps!

yeh, i noticed the skin is all tough and horrible! i think i will just give them the melon part. i'm sure they won't like it though and i don't like melon either! i'll force my bf to eat it! whenever the buns or piggies try something new and don't like it, i make him eat it so it's not a waste! :))

i've just spent ages chopping it all up etc! there's loads of it! how often are they allowed melon?

Frog skin? Eww haha must google! Don't think I've seen one! I love Melon though! Never used to! But it is soooo refreshing! :(|)

Don't put them in the freezer like I did. Thought it would be nice frozen during a hot summer, but neglected to slice it first. Not a good plan. I just succeeded in making something that could be put to expert use in a bowling alley! Who knows what I was thinking?! x
