neep-neep......PAHbrought out petsmart in the uk..so i thought as the shop in south wales i was working in was petsmart one week.....the following week i passed in was PAH....on the outside and all the advertising but still exactly the same inside with all the same emplyees.......

http://www.ukbusinesspark.co.uk/petsmart.htm see this link....

Yes, but it's a totally different company with totally different policies and procedures, which is what I was getting at. There are very few Petsmart staff left now... one of the most useless people I worked with was a relic from Petsmart ::)

Michellmuffin, the pet shop license covers cats, dogs, marmosets, reptiles, pot-bellied pigs, even venomous snakes! All the shop has to do is say "right, I want to sell those, I have the facilities here to keep them" and the council will say "yep, fine". :(

Cavy Crazy, that's fair enough, of course i'm not so sheltered to think that there are no animals in rescues because of pets at home, that would be a ridiculous notion. I was simply responding to the comment that indicated the only reason animals were in rescue was because of pets at home....which i'm sure you'll agree, is quite untrue. I KNOW that there are stupid staff around which have resulted in animals going to rescues, I was simply indicating that there are many many other sources too, so to blame it purely on P@H is really quite unfair.

I was just thinking, if they must have animals why dont they JUST have rescue animals...then i remembered...if they did that they couldnt make a profit

Actually, they would probably make just as much money. The profits made are simply from cage and food sales - no money is made on the actual animals. As Michellemuffin has said, change takes time. They are gradually introducing the rescue thing to help change the public mindset, and i'm hopeful that it will result in more animals getting adopted from rescues than there are being sold.

I agree that we are just going in circles, at the end of the day we are both passionate about piggies and animal welfare, so it's clearly going to be a highly debated issue. I'm in the unfortunate position of being able to see all sides of the argument ;D
I wouldn't say it's out of control at all, it's simply people putting across their views. I'm sorry if I don't agree with the majority, but then what use would a one-sided debate be? No use at all.

At the end of the day, this thread was started to highlight the improvements being made :)

Well I don't know if they are so i will just stay out of this as i cant comment on a store i have never gone to, i have heard bad things about it but at least they are trying to change in some places

thats the problem with subjects like this a strong imotive one always causes conflict but as we all know its time to call it a halt its a good sign, so end of this subject please we all agree to disagree thank goodness ;)
even if pet shops can legally sell dogs and cats I dont know of any and haven't for years that do so thank goodness,

just meant i dont shop in pet hypermarkets on the whole neep-neep.....i know petsmart dont trade over here

our P@H got rid of the birds and put an adotion thing in YAY needless to say we now have a new tiny hamster because adoption is mostly free. and he was adorable. The guinae pigs and rabbits are still together but the boys and girls are seperated and there's another thing just with rabbits in. Oh and a giant rabbit next to that and chinchillas and degos (Or whatever they are) and crabs too!

I agree with neep_neep. I am a P@H employee but also a guinea pig owner. As a company we are trying to improve everyday, separating the rabbits and guinea pigs is what i would class as a huge step, many people have campaigned for this for years and don't seem to be satisfied now that it is happening.

I am not going to deny that many animals in rescue centres are from our stores but we cannot be expected to take the blame for all of them.

In regards to help with rescue animals we are trying our best. My store has our local rescues instore at weekends in order to raise their awareness and encourage you to adopt and not buy.

Well I for one am delighted at the changes! Only I keep wanting to adopt every time I go in and I really can't breaks my lil heart!

The p@h have done this by us as well I dont know if it has already been mentioned buy the reason for this is the birds weren't making a profit I was told this by a member of staff working there on friday >:( I have a few tiels from there they've turned into really nice birds!! They have also got some giant bunnies in too but i'm sure thats just to make a profit!! >:( as they're £129 each I brought my british giant from a breeder in Tamworth for £40 and she is gorgous :smitten: I'll post a pic soon

Other forum members have stopped discussing this topic as we all have different views and feelings and basically agreed to disagree. Would love to see pictures of you rabbit Little M. :)

me2. I couldn't believe how big they grew to and they're only babies at our P@H so I still don't believe it :P
