Has anyone ever tried to get Pets at Home to pay a vet bill after buying an animal from them to notice it sice 24/48hrs later?

ive not had an animal from there but if i did i would tell them they are paying for bill if the animal is ill within 48hrs

I have heard many people do this so yes they do and if the sows they sell have any babies they give you a free cage and hay etc :)

they said they will pay £25 of a £150 vet bill. Been to citizen advice and they told me they should pay all the bill or i have to take legal action. So back at store tomorrow to try and get it sorted. The shop is a total mess when i was in yesterday there were so many sick looking piggies and rabbits. My partner thought he was being nice supriseing me with them, he didn't think of going to a rescue centre. Never again will i give them any business. Its wrong how they keep animals.

well if they do that if sows have babies I just hope i get the bill paid tomorrow. Thanks

sooo true - i would go in there and demand money there and then or for it to be sent to you and for the ones that look ill i would complain and tell them to just look at them themselves to see if they look ill if they say no then just say well I'm reporting you :(

They paid all my vet fees and gave a refund when Cuzzy had mites (he had them in store and didn't realise until a couple of days later.) They are bound to give a refund on the pet and pay for vet fees. My total was £50.00.
Take it to head office.

Yeah! I'd be really quite vocal about it too - especially if there's any other customers in there at the time (obviously I'd be politely vocal!) :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Good luck O0

Sent letters to head office and calls but keep getting told no money or refund. They did say they would "swap" my boys for another two if i took them back. I love them so much cant part with them.

Quite odd, I've always found head office to be ok. No you can't swap them, don't they realise the bond owners develop with new pets? ::)

I would contact the trades description act look at your council website, it should be on your receipt what they do if you get an ill pet within 2 weeks of getting him. The 'goods' were not fit for purpose. You bought them in good faith they were fit and healthy, they obviously aren't so they need to pay up!

Still get no joy go to your local paper. Good luck!

Thank You all. I will let you all Know how i get tomorrow. My wee boys have been through so much. It does say on the reciept to contact them if the pet becomes ill withing 2 weeks, when i did that they told me to take them to vet and they would pay the bill, so I'll be very polite and hope that i get the result i would like or i will be going to my local paper and taking legal action. They cant continue to sell sick pets.

Try, if you can, to get everythng they say in writing - just so you've back up if needed further down the line.

It makes me wonder how many people have been sold poorly animals by them and not done or said anything about it (i.e. with regards to the shop).

I'm boycotting them anyway and this has just reinforced my already low opinion of them. :tickedoff:

I no, alot of people wouldn't think twice to contact the shop or seek action against them. and to even suggest swapping them is unreal. They said they would treat them themselves in store then re-sell. However have heard from my vet they just put them to sleep. The shop needs shut down in my view.

hahhhhhh omg - pts ? :'( thats sad :-\ I HATE P@H :tickedoff: i do shop there however but wouldnt get a piggy from there ever unless it was in a bad way :P

when i went in the other day there was 2 females who were obviously very ill. I was so tempted but that would just encourage to breed and sell more sick animals. I would rescue them all if i could. x

yeah me too :-\

My partner says we are stopping after 2 more. just hope i get it all sorted tomorrow.

I'm sure they will - Theyll be in love :smitten:

There may be a little rumbling and humping going on in the first few minutes or so but thats nothing to worry about - I'm sure theyll take to each other straight away ;)

Are they all together in one large hutch/cage now ?

not yet. Still debating wether to just put the females in beside them or spilting the males up into seperate cages with the females. The cage is massive so plenty room with 5 different hiding places for them. They spend a lot of time in the run as well but never been together.

yeh they were sold to my partner with mites and ringworm (he got them to suprise me). They did show a little agression at times (vet said would be due to being apart and suddenly put together as they did settle over time) and have just been neutured.

If the male guineas smell the females through the divider in the cage they may fall out, just to warn you :)
Well done on pushing the issue with p@h, can't believe they won't pay the bill & offered to refund you & take the gps back >:(

I no its totally crazy, I dread to think what would happen to them if i did take them back, my poor little boys. Yeh i no they will, will need to think of something, dont want to part with any of them. x

Well I got sold a boar and a sow instead of 2 sows and they paid for my tucker to be nutured and have said if Pipin which she is preg then they will give me a cage for the babies and free food and bedding for the first 6 weeks. They said they would swop Tucker I told them right where to go lol. Good luck they should deffo pay it for you be assertive and do not leave untill they have refunded you. If they keep refusing I think I would place myself right near the rabbitts and guineas telling anyone that past that they sold ill piggies, is disgusting! Poor things x

Thank you for telling me that, will let you know how tomorrow goes. i hope it goes well. x

I just threw out my receipt from P@H from when I got my piggies and I'm pretty sure it said something about contacting them if it turned out they were unwell. I have to say the P@H near me has always been really good - I check on all the animals everytime I go in but they seem to have a really quick turnover as everytime I go in its different ones. They only ever have a few of each kind of animal as well at any one time. There is always hay/food/water and piggies/rabbits are kept separate as well as females/males. Staff are all really good and very helpful.
